Default Twilight Zone 1985: Help PLEASE!

Hi all, I really LOVE 'The Outer Limits' 2002. I thought 'Twilight Zone' from 1985 would be just as good, but I'm definitely finding it hard to watch these early episodes. I've only seen a couple episodes, but the stories just feel really bizarre and "weird."

I finished watching all of 'The Twilight Zone' from 2002-2003 and that was much easier for me to watch as it contained more science-fiction type episodes and was less "weird."

Is it worth it for me to 'stick it out' and keep watching the 'Twilight Zone' from 1985?

Thank you!

The Outer Limits has always been more sci-fi based than The Twilight Zone, going back to the original series from the '50s-'60s. Even though there were a few sci-fi segments in the '80s Twilight Zone, they are mostly "weird", as you put it. I remember one where space explorers in the future discover the star from the Nativity story, and that it became visible on Earth because it went supernova, wiping out the civilization living near it (not a spoiler). I also remember another one starring Shelly Duvall, whose character is a quiet, lonely person who is telepathically given a message from an alien space probe, and she suddenly receives all this undesired attention from the rest of the world who want to know what the message was.

The 80's Zone is more in line with the 60's version so if you didn't care for the 60's version you might not like this. Personally I love the 80's Zone but they are hit and miss episodes as there are with any anthology type show. Sounds like you like the SciFi stuff so maybe that's why your not digging it.

One of my favorite episodes is with William Peterson who actually seems a lot like his character on CSI about people going crazy for no apparent reason.

Was that the very Lovecraftian story where
[Show spoiler]hearing the meaning of life or whatever
would drive you insane? I haven't seen it since it first aired, but I remember liking it, too.

Yep that's it (Just looked it up, it's called "Need to Know"). Also dug the one where the young boy and I think his Aunt drive to a swimming hole and pick up an old man on the side of the road...creepy as hell (The Burning Man) (good Halloween month watching episode). Also, "The Shadow Man" is rather good too, directed by Joe Dante.

Have you also considered "Amazing Stories"? It has a Twilight Zone show format produced by Steven Spielberg (I believe he directed one episode too). Other big directors also contributed to it too.

What makes Amazing Stories fascinating is that the plots of a lot of the episodes became the plotline for some feature films (http://www.cracked.com/article_22814...e-tv-show.html)

Oh, yeah, that was a good one, too. "Do you believe in genetic evil?"

I want something that's going to force me to think. Do the non science-fiction episodes that are just weird make you think about differently about things?

Honestly I don't recall (I'm going by my memories from when the show originally aired ). However, there was one episode, where an Elvis impersonator travels back in time and meets the real Elvis before he recorded his first song. It was my first exposure to a causality loop, so it left me scratching my head for a long time.
