I much prefer the superb DVD art (one of the best Criterion designs ever, to my eyes) but wonderful news that this will be receiving the 4k treatment. Possibly Widmark's finest performance.

Day 1 for sure, and the 4k treatment just sweetens the deal.

I absolutely love the artwork. I definitely prefer it over the DVD art. And a 4K transfer...oh, baby!

The new artwork reminds me of artist Ivan Albright and, as such, inappropriate as far I'm concerned, but to each his own. Following Criterion's awful art for RIDE THE PINK HORSE, that's two noir cover misfires for me. Naturally, this is all subjective and I respect those who appreciate them.

I love the film, but will be patient to see if MOC does it soon.

Sure is! This movie is in the running for my all time favorite film and this is such a exciting announcement for me. Definitely glad I held off on buying the German disc. Oh and that artwork is fantastic as well as it being a 4K scan.

Okay so we got three of the late 40's- 1950 films of Dassin on blu-ray spread across the regions, Brute Force, The Naked City and now Night and the City...that just leaves Thieves Highway from 49' and I absolutely love that title as well...just got to love Dassin period.

You can put me in the camp that prefers the original DVD cover, but I am super stoked to see this movie get a bluray upgrade!

I'm absolutely stoked by this announcement. The two versions of the film being available in full makes it worthwhile in itself.

What isn't clear is that although the 95 minute US version (Dassin preferred the edit even though not involved in either of the two edits) is 4k if the British version gets the same treatment as the US version.

I just had an email from Criterion and I'm very happy to confirm that the 'Alternate Presentation' cited as the UK 101 minute version is a 2K HD restoration.

I'm very happy about this
