Default Advice for giving advice...

One of my buddies wants to upgrade his home-theater system. He currently has about $1000.00, but wants to spend about $2000.00-$2500.00 on the system. He asked me if he should use the $1000.00 to get new speakers now, or a new receiver, or if he should just save until he has enough to get it all at once.

He already has some decent Klipsch speakers, so I told him to go with the receiver first if he wants something new right now. But I would personally wait until I had enough to buy the entire setup, because I would want to have that "new theater feel".

Would you have told him the same?

Go with the receiver. I would get one with dts-hd support. With Klipsch speakers, you will still hear a difference. Upgrade the speakers when you get more money.

Upgrade the Receiver first.

This is where my money would be.

Top notch receiver at a killer price...more $$ to spend on speakers.

wait. I think it is worth waiting to see what happens with audio.
