Is it normal for massage parlors to charge a lot of money?

I like to go to massage parlors occasionally because I find them very relaxing. But they are so expensive. It's usually $180 for half hour, $220 for 45 minutes, and $260 for one hour. I find that very expensive. I go to the massage parlors in NYC, so that might explain why it's expensive, but come on, I can take my family out to a nice, fancy steak dinner with that kind of price.

Are massages supposed to be this expensive??

LOL, I am not but even if I was, I still don't think it would be worth $200 or so.

Sorry to say I am not. Just a simple massage and is usually such a hit or miss depending on what masseuse I get. Some other places were charging $200 for a half hour. It’s crazy. I understand this is NYC but that kind of price is really high and sometimes not even worth it. I could’ve bought a 4K Blu-ray player with that money! Or go out for a nice dinner! Or spend a day at an amusement park! It’s crazy!

My wife goes to a local LaVida Massage here in Ga, they are a chain, and she normally goes for 90 minutes and pays $75.00 + tip.

Wow, it costs me more than double that for a shorter session. Either NYC is way overpriced or I'm going to the wrong places. I'm thinking the latter because like I said, I can list a good number of things I can do here in NYC for $200 that's a lot more worth it than a 30+ minute massage.

I second this. Massage Envy is a good deal if you want monthly massages or facials. They have a promotion running right now - if you join (12 month membership) now through Feb 9, 2020 you get a free 60 minute session. Massage Envy is $70/month where I live... which gets you a 1 hour Massage or Facial every month. You can roll over if you miss a month and/or save up your credits for 90 minute sessions. Plus, you can go to any location... so if you don't love the masseuse(es) at one location, try another. Massage Envy (at least the locations near me) do not have showers and all the extra bells and whistles like fancy spas, though... so if that's part of the experience you like, M.E. may not be the best choice.

It sounds like an NYC thing. I know that they are cheaper here in Utah/Nevada. My niece does massages for a living and does not charge near that.

I could not imagine spending half my monthly rent just for a massage (even of the "happy ending" variety ). That's a rich-person indulgence.

The best massage was from my physical therapist. It was a guy and the massages were therapeutic in nature. But he could really straighten out sore muscles. The best one non-therapeutic I had at one of the Asian places was from a lady who would walk on your back. Man you could feel everything snap, crackle and pop.

I'm in Canada but my wife gets a prescription from her doctor for a massage and it's covered under our benefits through work. Even if it wasn't, it wouldn't be that expensive. I would suggest that you look into a registered massage therapist instead of a massage parlour. or maybe even a massage school. We have a school and they offer free massages.

I'm not rich, far from it, but I really could use a massage, maybe every quarter...something legitimate and professional, just to loosen up knots in the back.

I went through boot camp with this guy who always talked about wanting a massage when we got done with boot camp. on graduation day I went to a massage parlor with him and he was in the room for a good hour. he complained that the masseuse was a little on the heavy side heheh.

theyre really cracking down on the massage parlors that are open at 11 PM on a Friday night in parts of town next to E-cig shops and truck stops. I dont know what all those masseuses are gonna do once its impossible for them to do whatever it is they are doing. I guess nail salons are always an option hehe

Were you in Boot Camp or basic training and if you were in Boot Camp, where did you go?
