Definitely an essential purchase
![]() But why stop at the first one, I want the "sequels" as well, same for Cruel Intentions. |

here it is
http://www.hometheaterspot.com/fusio...hp?tid/137884/ Video: "In general detail looks extraordinary, eye popping in subject and focus. But there is some inconsistency in the films resolve, some of which appears clearly related to focus, but others can’t be so easily pawned off on the photography with any certainty. Colors generally look very, very good, but show some inconsistency akin to what we’ve seen from older masters at times as well. A few sequences early in the film even look a bit washed. Though, I’m not quick to point fingers at the disc or master in that regard, when the photography being under the bright Florida sun, could just as easily be to blame. Regardless, they are usually non-lasting effects, isolated to specific scenes. The AVC encoding appears pretty seamless. Rarely did compression have a perceptible impact on the video. But there were a few moments in the darkness, or fades to black that hinted at miniblocking. Elevating brightness was more revealing than properly calibrated levels. The AVC bitrate dropped a little low in these passages too, closer to Warner’s VC-1 standard than typical, more accomodating Sony AVC or MPEG-2 bitrates. From what I checked, the bitrate appeared easily capable of handling the film though, with frequent peaks above 30mbs and an average that appeared a little higher than 20mbs" |

Has anyone bought wildthings on blu-ray yet? I am very disappointed in this release because it doesn't seem Sony didn't take care of the shaking problem this movie has. If you watch it some scenes are plaqued with the print almost vibrating in most scenes. The DVD was like this too and I would of thought that this would of been fixed in this edition.

You could ask paidgeek about this. Please provide the timecode when you ask though.
"Almost vibrating" in one scene or many scenes? From one camera angle in that scene or all camera angles in that scene(s). fuad |

I remember having this problem in the DVD although I didnt think it was this noticeable. It seems like it must be the master. In the full screen version on DVD its even more noticeable. It happens in most scenes, maybe every other scene.
Just the clearify on the picture quality, it looks awesome but it does jitter like mentioned above. This is something Sony should of fixed for the Blu-Ray release. |

I also noticed this in a few scenes. It was a minor issue though IMO.
I saw this movie once before like 7 years ago and forgot about all the plot twists, so it was fun to be surprised by them again on the BD. Overall, a great release! The scene with the two girls in the pool, wow! ![]() |

I watched it the other night and didn't notice any shaking. I don't have a trained eye for such things but I didn't notice anything on a 150" 1080p projected image.
I didn't think the picture quality was top notch but it was certainly an upgrade over dvd. In the opening scene at the high school, my wife actually asked if this was not an HD movie. She doesn't watch a lot of HD content so it's not that it looked like Uni's recent releases, it just didn't have that "pop" of some recent releases. I think it's a fine upgrade over dvd but not a reference disc. |

The reason why I ask for specifics, particularly camera angles, is that a camera can be cranky. And sometimes, it doesn't work perfectly.
So when it doesn't work properly, what you're seeing is in-camera unintended special effects. It can't be fixed easily or cheaply as the shaky/jitter effect has to be reframed frame by frame before the AVC/MPEG-2/VC-1 encode. Wild Things was a cheap movie to make. It may have its fans but it's not LoA level and most probably won't get jitter if it's there to be fixed. fuad |

Crime thrillers don’t generally bring the most lavish sound designs, but I was extremely impressed with the profound experience that this mix offered in PCM" |

A technical question: isn't this the same effect as weave which happens in film prints as they get used over and over?

I just watched Black Hawk Down a few days ago and there were numerous scenes where detail was very pronounced but I simply didn't see any scenes in WT where the detail was that sharp. It certainly looked good but I think to say it was eye popping is not an accurate assessment of the presentation. |
