Default Purchasing My First Blu-ray Player - several questions

I am thinking about purchasing my first Blue-Ray player and I really like the price and features of the Sony Blu-ray Disc Player BDP-S300. I found it at Best Buy for $299.

One big question is whether or not I can play my regular DVDs on this player?

Also, what do you think of this player? My budget tops out at $300 so this is about the most I want to spend

Any comments and feedback is greatly appreciated.

Peace,

1. Welcome to the Forum!
2. Check Blu-Ray Players and Recorders for any questions you may have regarding specific players. There is a bounty of information for you there. If you don't find it there, run a search with your particular question, and you'll find that most times your question has already been answered.
3. All Blu-Ray Players are backwards compatible with DVDs.
4. Enjoy!!

I would get the PS3 its $399.00 but if you open a credit card on Sony Style.com you get $100.00 back so its really $299.00 if you are able to do that.

Or I would just save another $100.00 and get the PS3.

Its a great BR player and a game machine to boot. Or is it the other way around

Blazzing fast load times and the upscale for DVD's is pretty sweet.

Good luck

instead of the Sony 300 (no HD audio capabilities), I would go with the Samsung BD-P1400 ($285+FREE Shipping)

...and for HDMI cables...shop Monoprice.com

this would also be a great idea. The PS3 is more like a Computer/Entertainment Center/Bluray Player, all in one. For $299 its hard to beat.

If you don't have a receiver capable of the HD Audio, The BDP-S300 makes a fine player. I have had no movie playing issues like I have heard about on the Samsung either. If you want entry level and PCM, compressed DD, & DTS are all you can do anyway then the S300 isn't bad at all.

1 - Welcome to Blu-Ray.com !

2 - You might want to send a message to one of the admins and have them change your forum name. Not sure if that email address is valid - but it's not a wise thing to be using as your name - let alone it's really big!

3 - You can play regular dvd's on ANY bd player. Technology is always (usually) backwards compatible.

Have fun!

I have the HD audio capability

But now I have a Panasonic wireless HD theatre system set-up to my TIVO and hi-def set. If I replace the Panasonic DVD player with this new Blue-ray player will the wireless capability still be compatable or is it only endemic with the Panasonic system?

...doing a simple "search" will bring up many issues of playback with the S300. Not saying the Samsung is perfect, but you make it sound like the S300 plays flawless.

I have heard of their issues too, just not as often as the Samsung's. I'm just saying from experience the S300 works great for me. I think the PS3 is the place to be though.
