Default Curious George Movie

Quote:
The Hollywood Reporter brings word that Shrek director Andrew Adamson is in talks to direct and co-write a new Curious George movie for Universal Pictures and Imagine Entertainment. The film is being eyed as a live-action version of the popular book series over an animated film.

Adamson made his directorial debut with Shrek in 2001 and followed it up with Shrek 2 three years later, which was the highest-grossing animated film until Toy Story 3 was released in 2010. He later transitioned to live-action films, helming the first two The Chronicles of Narnia movies and later Cirque Du Soleil: Worlds Away.

Created by H.A. and Margret Rey, Curious George made his debut in 1941 and has gone on to become the subject of countless books, TV shows, movies, live performances, and even video games. The series revolves around the titular monkey and his misadventures with The Man in the Yellow Hat where his nosiness often finds him in trouble. The last feature film for Curious George released in theaters was in 2006 and featured the voices of Will Ferrell, Drew Barrymore, David Cross, Eugene Levy, and Dick Van Dyke.

A film from Illumination Entertainment, the creators of Despicable Me and The Secret Life of Pets, was in development as recently as 2011 but never came to fruition.

I thought the 2006 one was great, which was one of the last 2D animated movies.

They really always have to make talking animal movies for kids all the time? What happened to mature coming-of-age adventure movies such as Stand By Me, Explorers, Goonies, S.W.A.L.K., etc?

Except it's not only now. Curious George already had a film ten years ago.

With Illumination animation killing it for Uni, I'm surprised they didn't go with a fully CGI animated movie.
