Default $29.99 and $34.99

What kind of idiotic pricing is this? Especially the $34.99 price. Movies such as Usual Suspects and Behind Enemy Lines priced at $34.99? They are both good movies but hell I got a free copy of Behind Enemy Lines on DVD when I purchased the COD4 PC game a month or so ago. Usual Suspects, one of my all time faves but it is a bargain basement DVD currently.

It just shocks me that BluRays are priced at such a premium.

Brick and mortar stores just scream for people to buy their BluRays from Amazon.com and other online e-tailers.

if it makes you feel better we have to pay $40-$50 for high def titles here.

dvd sales are going down and since people can pick them up so cheaply now in supermarkets (im refering to the US Market mainly) they are milking High Def supporters.

it sucks but the same thing happened on dvd.

Ironically, those prices, and $39.99 (typically for double-disk titles), were what I regularly paid for laserdiscs, up until I stopped buying them in about 1998 when I switched over to DVD. Of course, there was the occasional $19.99 and $24.99 titles, but they were more rare.

The only way we're going to see cheaper Blu titles at retail outlets is for this war to be over and the red adopters quickly defect, adding to our numbers. When we all start buying in larger quantities, and more new adopters join the winning side, then the manufacturers can produce larger quantities and the prices will then drop; ie, we have to stop being such a niche market.

But I suspect that, if Warners moves to exclusive Blu, we're going to see BOGOs and B2G1s dry up and perhaps even disappear for a time unless Blu becomes more of a mass adopted format far more quickly. SDs are going to more starkly become what they've always been--the main competition for full adoption of Hi Def disks.

I agree. It's also silly to see 20 year old flicks with a $34.99 price tag.Best Buy wants $34.99 for Robocop on Blu-Ray-YIKES! But it is a new video format and I believe DVD's had a high price tag when they came out over 10 years ago? I know I feel a bit wierd when a new release comes out and Best Buy wants $29.99 for The Blu-Ray while they only want $14.99 for the DVD,but of course we are spending $15 more for a mutch better version of the movie then the Standard Def DVD version.

Best thing to do in cases like this is to price match. I received $200 bux in BB gift cards for Christmas. I am happy - however they are pricey when it comes to blu's. First thing I do before I buy is make sure the title is cheaper at Target or Wal-Crap. If it is, I go in and get them to price match. Usually knocks 5-7 dollars off the price right there. This is usually just fine and only a dollar or two more than Amazon.

Now that Amazon is no longer doing the HD discount - and the fact that I have prime and don't have to pay shipping - buying locally as long as I get a price match will result in only about a dollar difference. Not much really.

Shopping on Amazon is the best place to get your movies especially if you are a prime member. Free 2 day shipping is awesome. My last 20+ movies were bought through amazon and has saved me a TON..i could go to frys but that would require me to drive 10mins outta my way to get there and im lazy lol

How much is Amazon prime? I would think that you would have to be a heavy purchaser in order to take advantage of the free shipping you get? I'm selective with my Blu purchases, so this could be a bad deal for those who don't by everything that's released right?

I believe it is $80 a year, but since i buy the majority of my movies from amazon plus i pick up movies on most of thier sales they have so i made it worth the $80.

It's FOX titles that are the super premium, seems like their catalog stuff is more expensive than the new stuff (Simpsons Move at $29.99 everywhere).

It is pretty ridiculous...but like others were saying, either wait for the sales or check out Amazon second-hand sellers, or half.com. You can usually find those $35 movies for $23-25 dlvd unless you HAVE to have instant gratification and have the movie in your hands immediately. I don't.

That's what you do. Just take some time to search for the cheapest price and get Best Buy to match it.

I would never buy from any BM store other than Frys. The prices there are in line with that of online retailers moslty. I have never paid more than 27 for a Blu-ray from anywhere. There are always sales and with WB, there is a 25% coupon every month for us. They already sell the discs as low as amazon pricing. I pay 14.96 for most all BRs from warner. Getting a movie on the release day is important to some people and for them money must not be a problem either, Frys is not a huge chain but they always have the new releases at mine. There are many people that will never buy anything from the internet, so they will pay the 34.99 a disc and not know they can get it for maybe $20 online.

The truth of the matter is, we are getting a much greater value than DVD considering what Blu Ray can offer. While these prices might not be what we're used to, they're not that out of line. Also, as the format grows, I'd be shocked if the prices don't level down some.

I only wish I could get some sort of credit for having bought titles earlier on DVD (and on some.. VHS)

A lot of places charge premium.. but not all. Best Buy is really bad on a lot of titles - but they easily price match Frys, etc.

ALL new releases on DVD was 29.99$ for a long time when it first came out. Still, 29.99$ is too much to pay for back titles. Even new titles shouldn't be more than 27$ or so.

Well, I have only paid over 25$ for a few of my Blu-ray. Most are 25$ or less. Many were 13.99 or 19.99$! Some of my Blu-rays I bought were actually cheaper than the DVD counterpart in the same store!

The prices are definitely disgraceful, especially for catalog titles, but high prices are nothing new for early adopters. VHS prices were even worse back in the day.

I avoid movies above $25. That unfortunately meant The Simpsons.

Hell, I think a bogo with a $34.99 movie is overpriced . Its still about $18 a movie, which is still a bit too much. They should have new releases at $14.99.

they cant have $14.99 movies yet. Not until blu-ray becomes profitable.
And once the red demon is gone more will be sold and that will drive price down after a year or so. I am perfectly happy just buying bogos and sale blu-rays only for a while. I did buy blade runner though. Thankfully my parnets got me simpsons. $34.99 is rediculous.
