Guardians of the Galaxy 3D hits theaters this week in many locations. The movie doesn't take itself seriously and had a comic style with what looks like lots of action and special effects, and hopefully a fun story line with stronger 3D. Based on the Marvel Comics.

Will check it out this weekend. The trailer's 3D is in the high medium, to strong 3D range for layering from what I saw in theaters. Wondering if the 3D will be consistent from start to finish for most shots, and not go lite 3D for the dialog shots as they did with Avengers and Captain America Winter Soldier's 3D.

Looks like fun.

Saw this tonight. The 3d is excellent and the visuals are second to none. Overall, it's a really entertaining sci-fi flick with a lot of humor.

Good to hear. I'm planning on seeing it this weekend at a DBox theatre in 3D. Should be quite the experience

So the Dbox experience was awesome! Seats were $17 each where I went but considering I'd never tried them before it was worth it. The seats moved right along with the action and in many spaceship scenes it was spot on with how the ship moved. You felt each rat-tat-tat of Rocket's machine gun & each punch and kick from both the Guardians and their foes

Sadly it kind of dwarfed the 3D experience for me. I admit I am hard to impress as I've seen so much good and just blah 3D to know how I like it to be at this point. Overall I would differ a bit from others and say it was more mild to sometimes medium 3D with some strong more than satisfactory 3D shots during action and especially towards the end of the movie

I think it was on par with and at least as good a movie as Avengers and can't wait to see it again at home

Good observations. Thanks.
I forget the exact character who was looking to the left, but looking at the very edge of their face, I could see some very subtle blurring in the background while the rest of the background was sharp. But yes, great conversion and the plentiful CGI 3D was strong also.

I still have to try the DBox at one of my theaters. 17$ is pretty good considering $14 is the price for Imax3D and XD3D showings.
Would you say Pacific Rim's 3D is stronger in your view? Thanks.

Cinemark XD, yes? Did it open up to 1.78:1 in some scenes like the IMAX release? It did so in a trailer I saw in XD, but not sure whether I should expect that when I see the full film.

I'm seeing this tomorrow at Imax. Surprisingly for a movie like this, my expectations are pretty low. Hope I'll enjoy it a lot and be swept up in the fun.

I actually don't recall, I was so engrossed in the movie, that I didn't notice.

Disney is not part of UV, so Disney movies are not in the UV "system".

Most UV providers (with the exception of Flixster) do have Disney or other non UV content for sale digitally. However, Disney films are not UV eligible at all and do not transfer across UV.

Therefore, a Disney film purchased on Target Ticket (which is not part of DMA yet) does not transfer to Vudu or any other UV provider that carries Disney movies. It stays in Target Ticket only.

Same goes for the handful of independent or minor label films sold on UV providers that are currently not UV eligible.

I watched some of the 3D BD today and noticed that their is a vertical black bar on the left edge of the screen that constantly changes width from shot to shot when the picture opens up to 1.78. Has anyone else noticed this? It's really annoying me!

Nope it happened to me and has happened on plenty of 3D movies. I believe it has to do with alignment of the two images together that may differ from the theatrical run. You'll only see if you have overscan disabled on your TV. Most TVs overscan by default.

Is there any difference between a 3d movie converted to 2d (using your tv) and a movie which is already in 3d? Eg if i watched the 3d blu ray of avatar and i wanted to watch 2n instead, i press a button on the tv which converts it to 2d, but there is also a 2d only version, is there any difference between those two?

The first time I watched it in 3D I didn't notice this. The second time I watched it in 2D (from the 3D disc) and noticed it.

Those are floating windows present on the left eye view. They're also in the 2.39:1 ratio scenes but more noticeable in 1.78. Their purpose is to prevent 3D window edge violations that would confuse eye-depth without it added. They are also present when necessary on the right side of the screen for the right eye-view.

Thanks for the explanation. I actually noticed it when watching the 3D disk in 2D on my PC. I thought it looked strange.

So since Target Ticket is now closed, what happens to the exclusive target bonus feature(s)? I admit I didn't have a chance to watch it... I assumed I could when I had a chance. And now I'm really frustrated!!

Will this content transfer to the Disney site? Does anyone have a copy of this content elsewhere? The only thing worse than an exclusive is a digital exclusive that is easily erased from the web...
