It's a shame that article didn't mention how he found a new audience with his portrayal as Mr Potato Head. The first Toy Story was probably when he played him the best.

Sad news.

Don Rickles is not normally associated with X: The Man with the X-Ray Eyes or Run Silent, Run Deep, but he's great in both films.

R.I.P. Mr. Potato Head.

I bet Jimmy Kimmel is going to pay tribute to him tonight.

He's the only guy who had to pretend to be hurt by Joe Pesci. He was that much of a bada**.

xD My post above addresses that funny little fact. He had to PRETEND to be hurt by Joe Pesci while everyone else didn't.

Default Don Rickles on Get Smart

A wonderful example of the comedic genius of Don Rickles was when he appeared as a guest star on the Get Smart TV series from the 1960s.

Don Rickles' and Don Adams’ terrific styles of comedy together was unforgettable.

And, I thought Don Rickles’ unique type of humor was so hilarious that I began to mold part of my sense of humor to emulate his.

Rickles first acting role was in RUN SILENT, RUN DEEP.

Rickles in KELLY'S HEROES.

Also, some submarine trivia: the novel RUN SILENT RUN DEEP, which the movie was based on, was written by Edward Beach, who was an officer on the USS Tirante (SS-420) in World War II. Other Tirante officers included George Street III (Medal of Honor recipient), Endicott Peabody (governor of Massachusetts) and actor Theo Marcuse who appeared in the classic THE TWILIGHT ZONE episode "To Serve Man" and on the "Catspaw" episode of STAR TREK.
