I'm going to eventually upgrade my system but I'm starting with the subwoofer because it's been giving me problems! I want it for movies, sports & gaming! A little music also... Been looking at the SVS SB-1000 & the PB-1000! Someone also recommended Elac S12EQ... I currently have satellite speakers in a room that's 14X15! I plan on upgrading to bookshelve speakers soon. I live in an apt so I've gotta keep the boom down lol Any suggestions???
Thanks in advance |

I sold my svs set up (2 subs, prime towers/center and surrounds) for 2 LV12R's and chane towers, center and surrounds (kept the svs elevations for atmos) and like that setup better. Rythmik makes some nice subs but nothing wrong with svs if you go that route either.

I have not heard Rythmik subs, I have Hsu Research 25 mins from me and an SVS dealer 20 mins away. Lucky me could have my pick - twice I picked Hsu subs, the first was the VTF2 MK4 over the PB NSD-12, the second time was the VTF3 MK5 HP over both the PB2000 and SB13. The SB13 is a good sub, I thought I was gonna get one, but that day I drove to Hsu after, heard the VTF15 mk2 and VTF3 mk5, I ask the guy there, are your sales of the 15H being affected by how good the VTF3 is? I bought it right then. My friend bought the pb2000 but I find it boomy, not as quick or tight. So that was my experience

It's a subwoofer! A subwoofer is a LFE channel that's suppose to output low deep bass, booming and rumbling sound effects.

If you can't pinpoint exactly what the problem is, then maybe there is nothing wrong with it. You could imagining it, or you just want a new subwoofer. If there was something definitely wrong with the subwoofer, you would know what it is, except for it just doesn't sound the same anymore. You've gotten accustomed to it! For a subwoofer, 7 years is not a long time. Subwoofers can last much longer because they're not played 24/7... I've had my subwoofer for 10 years, and it still sound the same.

Gonna spend 700 on a subwoofer in an apartment...boy your neighbors are gonna love you.
I have gone from Polk 10inch to Velodyne 12in to Epic Legend dual active 12inch. There is a substantial quality difference going up this ladder. Its not about being boomy or loud, any sub can be boomy and loud. Buying a high qulaity sub about blending into the speakers to the point where the sub disappears, then packing enough punch to be big and in your face when called upon. A high quality sub is an important part of your set-up. The ones mentioned above are all quality choices. |
