Default Nightmare 4K UHD (1981) coming from Severin

Quote:
“THE MOST REPULSIVE, OFFENSIVE, DEGRADING, GORY, DEPRAVED AND HORRIFYING MOVIE EVER MADE.” New York Daily News

THREE-DISC SPECIAL EDITION INCLUDES THE NEVER-BEFORE-SEEN RESTORED VERSION PLUS 9+ HOURS OF NEW SPECIAL FEATURES!

NIGHTMARE:

It’s been called “graphic and unapologetic” (SexGoreMutants), “brutally effective” (Screen Rant) and “a forgotten classic” (Horror News). It remains the most reviled, controversial and misunderstood genre film of the ‘80s. Now “the most repulsive, degrading and horrifying movie ever made” (NY Daily News) can be experienced like never before: When a homicidal mental patient (an enduringly disturbing performance by Baird Stafford) flees an experimental drug program, he’ll leave a 5-day trail of psychosexual carnage from the peep shows of 42nd Street to the gore-soaked shores of Florida. Written and directed by Romano Scavolini, this “devastating masterpiece” (Cinefear) – whose UK release as NIGHTMARES IN A DAMAGED BRAIN led to the imprisonment of distributor David Hamilton-Grant – has been scanned from the internegative and various foreign print sources to create the most complete version ever assembled.

Oh, nice. Might wait and save myself some dollar, though. Don't think much of the exclusive slip and Severin's international shipping is crazy expensive.

This one never really gelled with me but it's definitely worthy of a reappraisal so I'm in.

The latest in our line of movie novelizations is NIGHTMARE from the damaged brain of Michael Gingold. 193 gore-soaked pages of madness and murder! Gingold needs no introduction to long time readers of Fangoria and Rue Morgue. He is also an avid novelization enthusiast but NIGHTMARE marks his first as author. His previous books include the Ad Nauseam/Ad Astra series and The FrightFest Guide to Monster Movies.

NIGHTMARE THE NOVELIZATION:

For George Tatum, the bad dreams were to blame for the atrocities he’d inflicted on those people in Brooklyn back in 1978. Since then, the experimental drug program had worked for a while and his doctors at The State Hospital for The Criminally Insane believed he was cured. But the childhood trauma that triggered his rage was still there, quietly seething in the dark recesses of his damaged brain. Now George is free again, and the psychotic carnage of his past can remain silent no longer.

First came the girl in the 42nd Street grindhouse. Then the woman in Myrtle Beach. Now George is heading south, inexorably drawn to the young family on the Florida coast – especially the boy, C.J. Over the next six days, George’s grisly visions will return. The butchery will escalate. And the ultimate nightmare is about to begin.

Among the multitude of extras, new and archival, in our stacked NIGHTMARE release are a 40 minute "making of" and an NY and Florida locations featurette both directed by Michael Gingold, a jaw dropping 72 minute new talk with Director Romano Scavolini from Freak-o-rama Productions, a charming late addition with makeup artist Robin Stevens (who's son wrote us after the news was leaked from our Cannes trade ad last month, thank you Dawn of the Discs), archival commentaries PLUS Red Shirt Pictures' Michael Felsher finally managed to persuade Tom Savini to go on record about his controversial involvement. Stay tuned here for more detail on Blu-Ray 2's contents. Here's a teaser of what you can expect from Scavolini's no holds barred talk...

$55 is really, really pushing what these boutique releases should cost. This is going to push me out of the hobby eventually.

88 films bluray is 99:04. They claim its the "most complete version ever". Wonder how much extra footage it has than their version?

severin not confirmed anything so either its same as 88 films or more footage then that. if it was same as code red then they would not mention extra footage.

Is this expected to be up for pre-order from Diabolik or any other boutique shops or only through Severin? If I decide to order this despite the ludicrous price, I'd prefer Diabolik since they package things well and have reasonable shipping. I'm wondering how limited this will be?

As far as I can tell it's only the slip that's limited. So depends how much you love cardboard

Most complete version EVER is pretty specific. It needs to be longer, or its false advertising
