Default Watching Blu-rays on LED TVs - Your opinions

I am planning to buy a new LED TV from tomorrow (Thursday May 4th). I'm going to buy one from a local electrical outlet store. It is a necessity because there was some painting going on at home in Dublin over the Easter. The old CRT TV I had for 11 years had encountered a severe problem. It was put outside in the back garden & now ruined because heavy amounts of rainwater are now inside it.

I want to ask you guys what are your opinions on watching Blu-rays with a LED TV.

The size of it will be either 22 or 24 inches. Will watching Blu-rays on it make much of a difference in PQ?

Any thoughts welcome.

You could get a much bigger basic 42" - however big you want for under $500 US dollars if your not looking for a fancy 4k hdr TV. 22" - 24" is pretty small. Not sure of the prices or what's available really in Dublin.

If you are just wanting a standard 1080-P LED, I would try and get as big of a screen as your wallet allow's . I do not even think that they make 4K screen's in the 22"/24" size, and if they do, I would not spend that kind of money on one that small. The 1080-P LEDs will provide you with an outstanding picture compared to your old CRT-TV, and with watching Blu-ray movie's, it will look even better . Go for it, you will like it .

I'd recommend popping into one of your local supermarkets and seeing what's on offer. There won't be anything inherently wrong with a small TV, but you'd have to sit within literally inches of it to make use of the higher resolution of Blu-rays.

If you can afford a bit extra, try and get a 32'' from a known brand.

You'll be surprised between the difference between CRT and LCD, back in the old days a 28'' CRT filled a room, but recently we brought down a 32'' LCD into the living room and it was like looking at a tablet in the corner. You could sit a lot further away from a CRT. If you're sitting more than six feet away you really want the biggest screen you can afford.

The Blu-rays will look great no matter the screen size, but the smaller the screen the closer you'll have to sit.

Thanks for the advice guys. I did actually buy one yesterday after making a big decision.

I went ahead with buying a new Cello 24" Android Smart TV at a price of €180. I bought it was because it was a little cheaper than a rival 24" TV without the Smart TV features. It did take a bit of time to setup the Blu-ray player on it properly. But once it was up and running; it worked great. I had my Blu-ray player for 3 years known as a Toshiba BDX-1500.

As a test run; I played two episodes of the 60's Batman TV show. The picture on it looked fantastic with the highest settings available on the TV.

But; I did notice something on the Aspect Ratio that looked a little off when watching them. I had black bars coming in on either the left or right hand side. Is that normal for this set. I had it set to Auto from it's menu settings. The Blu-ray set says it play them in 16:9.

The Batman TV show was presented in 4:3, so the vertical bars on the left and right sides of the displayed image are correct. Other settings will allow you to fill the screen by stretching and cropping the picture, but it will look distorted in my opinion. I believe everything should be viewed in the correct Aspect Ratio.
