Paramount Bad News Bears (2005)

The 2005 film Bad New Bears will be released on January 25th from Paramount.

Quote:
Morris Buttermaker (Billy Bob Thornton) is a burned-out minor league baseball player who loves to drink and can't keep his hands to himself. His long-suffering lawyer (Marcia Gay Harden) arranges for him to manage a local Little League team, and Buttermaker soon finds himself the head of a rag-tag group of misfit players. Through unconventional team-building exercises and his offbeat coaching style, Buttermaker helps his hapless Bears prepare to meet their rivals, the Yankees.

Hoping it’s not the remake again but the original. Fingers crossed we can get the other two movies in the series too. Australia is getting all the good Paramounts!

The date is an error or placeholder, the remake was in 2005.

Oh you're right. I was hoping it was the original since as you mentioned, Australia is getting that soon. Maybe we'll get that one through the Presents line.

Yeah the runtime is for the remake, plus the remake doesn't have "The" in the title like the original.

Oh, my bad. I still don't think they'd release the remake before the original though. Simultaneous releases?

The original needs a restoration and the remake never happened.

Blasphemous though this will be to many, I actually prefer the remake. I DO like the original, and it's always worth turning up for Walter Matthau alone, but it suffers like several of Michael Ritchie's comedies by having LOOOOONG stretches that aren't particularly funny and some scenes which are tonally at odds with the rest of the film.

But I agree the original needs some technical attention.

Yes, but most of them are not very good transfers.

Isn't the original getting a 2K transfer from Imprint?

The announcement says “1080p presentation of the film on Blu-ray” so that probably means it will use Paramount’s existing HD master as seen on iTunes, Amazon, etc.

I'll take an existing HD master on Blu-ray any day of the week over a stream of the same. Bring on the Blu-ray baby!

I watched the remake last week, and immediately checked if it was on Blu-ray. To my disappointment it was not. Not even a week later it gets announced, haha. Imo it's definitely worth the double dip for those who already own the DVD. Also, I just hope Paramount finally releaes "Rat Race" on Blu-ray soon. It's criminal they haven't already.

According to ImportCD, it's the original movie. Coming in March.
