Im too impatient...I open them and watch them. If I had more money I would buy several to save for a while and sell them later. The way I see it is blu-rays are $25-30, for $10-15 I can get an awesome case.

Open them up, check out that awesome packaging, then place it in the 'still to watch' blu-ray pile.

My first 6 SteelBooks I opened as soon as I received them... But for some reason I've yet to open Hancock and Iron Man which are my newest ones...

Exactly why would anyone keep them sealed?

These are mass-marketed consumer products. They won't be worth any more money in a decade. If anything, they'll be essentially worthless curiosities.

Movies, like toys, are made to be opened and enjoyed. Not kept in plastic hoping for some artificial value to increase.

I open them to admire them.
But seriously my iron man edges on the inside looks like 5 yrs down the road, it might rust!

But collectors generally don't buy SteelBooks for the movie. They buy it for the uniqueness of the cases. Why else would you pay extra money and often import them from other countries at exorbitant cost when you can buy a domestic release on sale for fraction of the cost. You can't apply conventional logic when it comes to value of a collection (whatever it may be).

I open them. But I only buy a steelbook version if it's one of my favorite movies. So far I only have Iron Man, but I'm hoping to get The Dark Knight and I Am Legend for Christmas.

Since its here here is my take:

I like to collect steelbooks because they look great, are uniform in shape and durable. I only do with movies I like. I do like to keep them sealed and I have bought the plain version to watch. Lately I've been looking over my collectable habits and I wont be buried with my steelbooks and why am I buying doubles. I'm just gonna buy the steelbooks and use them! Kinda hate leaving money on a shelf untouched.

On the flip side I know a guy you buys EVERY Best Buy release of steelbooks NO MATTER the movie or price. If it's steel he buys and to me hes insane. He also dislikes non-USA steelbooks.

Well, since the post is here, I'll identify that I buy them for my own personal tastes.
I'm a collector so the idea of selling them does not enter the equation.
I'm selective though and only purchase ones that I find very attractive, otherwise, as others have said, I just buy the regular amaray.
I have a personal affinity for lenti's ( I know some hate them) but they look very nice to me on display. I'll cycle my displays so that when friends drop by, they see new ones. I'm always queried about them.
ALL get opened and watched, unless I've previously purchased the same beast in amaray (due to timing of release).

As much as i want to keep "some" of the sealed, i just can't not knowing if they are damaged/scratched or not under the wrapping/j-card so i open all mine and put them in protective cases right away.
