I hope not, especially in America and Germany, where companies produce MOST of the home video releases on BD and UHD, especially about obscure or forgotten titles, or not much "popular" movies.
I don't know if the breakdown in America is as much severe and hard to withstand as it feels in Italy right now, frankly. Theatres are almost completely gone (at least until early 2022 or so), I just hope companies will keep transferring movies on HD and release them, especially the "minor" ones which never turned into huge blockbusters. |

How are streaming and digital purchases versus physical media (DVD/BD/UHD)?
If the majority prefer streaming, then that's what companies will start leaning towards to. |

It doesn't matter to me. I just hope that more and more movies - no matter how much popular for the Hollywood folks they are - will be finally transferred on HD and preserved in the proper way.

Furthermore, I read that Blu-rays nowadays don't have as many extras as DVDs once did? That's pretty disappointing. Extras can be so good when done right. Everything in life affects us even if we don't particularly care, or at first. |

That's why I basically put a cap on my format upgrading. I have quite the BD library and swiping what I can to complete it( True Lies and The Abyss will ultimately prevent that ). I stick mostly to older films anyway. I mean, am I gonna hold out for a UHD of saaaay Amazon Women on the Moon? I think not. It took a company like Kino Lorber to release a BD 14 years after the format premiered. So I snatched it without hesitation. At this point, for any film buff... it's prolly best to settle in with what you have, because it may be the last iteration you'll be able to own.

I mean, the problem with this year is that very few brand new movies/shows came out to buy on disc. Most of this year was very much just catalog releases and boutique labels, which isn't going to help a lot, brand new releases are needed to help keep things afloat. With that said, physical still makes millions upon millions and studios know this, hence why they're still involved with physical releases, so even if there is a big impact, physical sales still makes a ton of money. It's better to have two revenue streams of physical and digital instead of just one, especially this year where new products and big profits weren't possible.

I mean, it depends who is releasing the movie and what movie it is. Because Scream Factory's Friday the 13th set is jammed packed with extras that are also high quality.
