United Kingdom King Kong (2005) Ultimate Edition - 20/February 2017

https://www.amazon.co.uk/King-Kong-B...ords=king+kong

I know the US is getting it around the same time, I'm guessing this might be the UK release, including all of the previously missing extra features.

Here is the back of the US release:

Special Features:

Digital Copy of King Kong - Extended Version (Subject to expiration. Go to NBCUCodes.com for details.)
Includes UltraViolet (Subject to expiration. Go to NBCUCodes.com for details.)
My Scenes
BD-Live Features: My Scenes Sharing
U-Control: Picture in Picture
U-Control: The Art Galleries
Feature Commentary with Writer / Director Peter Jackson and with Co-Writer / Producer Philipa Boyen
The Volkswagen Touareg & King Kong
See More of NYC in "Wish You Were Here"
2006 Introductions by Peter Jackson
Recreating the Eighth Wonder: The Making of King Kong
Production Diaries
Post Production Diaries
Deleted Scenes with Introductions
The Eighth Blunder of the World
The Making of a Shot: The T-Rex Fight
Skull Island: A Natural History
Kong's New York, 1933
A Night in Vaudeville
King Kong Homage
Pre-Visualization Animatics
Conceptual Design Video Galleries
"The Present"
WETA Collectibles
Trailers

Big apologies if this is in fact NOT the ultimate edition but the timing seems right.

Are the extras basically just the stuff that was on the previous DVD releases & the separate Production Diaries DVD, or is there anything new?

I took the extras disc from the two-disc DVD & added it to my Blu-ray, but it doesn't have all the extras listed there, only the post production diaries & a few other bits & pieces, maybe the three-disc set had them all. I'm sure I'll end up buying this, it'll be around £6 in no time at all.

...& I understand that Warner are at long last releasing the classic 1933 King Kong over here, I hope, Kong: Skull Island is worth all this activity.

Nice that it's getting a UK release but I'm happy enough with my current edition, I won't upgrade. Not too fussed about extras nowadays.

Yes, basically there is no new content here just the extras from all previous DVD releases and the separate DVD production Diaries.

I'll definitely be picking this up as all my king Kong dvds are region 1.

The complete package of extras for this movie is easily equal to those LOTR extended edition extras.

I have to wonder, why did Universal wait this long to give fans the ultimate version we should have gotten all those years ago?

Well at last, fans of the film can finally put that Special Featureless version to rest now we finally have this in town. Great to see all the bonus features from previous releases and all the Production Diaries are here. This is the kind of content that could even rival the special features for Lord Of The Rings.

Even if there's no new content, fans will be happy nevertheless.

Simple answer: there's a new Kong film out next year, and just as with Godzilla a couple of years back it's time to go through the back-catalogue to ride the wave of 'Yeah, but the last version was better' publicity it'll generate.

Happily pick this up if the extras are in high definition, if not I'll probably wait until it's cheap.

Good to see that this is getting a UK release. I won't have to import it now.

Will this have all the same extras as the US version though ?

I noticed that the US has 3 discs but the UK listing states 2 discs.

Yes I noticed that, but if it means we're not getting the redundant DVD in the package, that's fine by me.

That's OK then. If it's just a bonus DVD copy I can live without that.

As long as we get all the extras on BD and both versions of the film I'll be happy.

I'd be surprised if they are but you never know!

I've bought this movie many times, it's one of my favourite movies. So glad we're finally getting all the extras. it's been years since I watched them as all my Kong DVDs are region 1 and my region 1 DVD player broke many years ago. I already have three copies for King Kong on blu ray but i'll be there day one for this release.

ha ha yes I've got both of those, and the first US DVD release of the theatrical, and the original BD release, and the digibook, and the steelbook.

Can never have too much Kong!
