Disney Sleeping Beauty (1959) (Diamond Edition)

Today's Disney Consumer Product (DCP) press release had this little gem hidden near the bottom:

"In fall 2014, a few months after the theatrical release of Maleficent, Walt Disney Studios will open its prestigious vault for the release of Sleeping Beauty Diamond Edition on Blu-ray."

Hopefully it's still a 2-disc BD.

This is great for people who weren't able to get it, but I'm sticking with my original.

That's a shorter vault time than the others. You mean to tell me I shouldn't have imported it from the UK 2 years ago?

I think this release might piss a lot of people off. I certainly won't be triple dipping on this.

I hope they keep all content from the Platinum Edition. That one was perfect!

Since everyone already raves about the picture quality of the Platinum Edition, do you think Disney will release this on Blu-ray 3D to try to get us to double dip? That's the only way I can really seem the sweetening the pot, otherwise it's just going to be a re-labeling of the Platinum Edition.

The one that nobody bought, back when Blu-ray was an "expensive fad" that was going to "die out in a year".
They don't have to sweeten the pot, they've got a lot of recent folk and dumb folk from six years ago by the balls, and can sell them the new frills like Digital Copy.
(Except for the even dumber folk who actually DID try to get a $75 copy on eBay after it was too late.)

Question is, they've still got two left to go on the vintage Platinum list: Jungle Book and 101D, and Aladdin is all but assumed for Spring '14. Are they going to intersperse the "catchup" titles with the new ones to keep interest, and '15 will be Jungle Book and Pinocchio?

3D, 4K, 11.1 audio, with a diamond on the slip over the Steelbook that houses a digibook inside the case.

No, they've pretty much come out and said they're done with 3D conversions for their older films. Little Mermaid was the last one. (Outside of Pixar films... And I don't even know if we'll ever see them released, since Up and Monsters Inc tanked.)

I own a grand total of ONE Disney BD: The Platinum Ed. of "Sleeping Beauty" (though I do own the Platinum DVD of "Snow White").

I'm not a big Disney fan to say the least -- obviously. But "Sleeping Beauty" was such a fantastic offer, and looked SO amazing. I couldn't resist.

I don't know why Disney is re-releasing Sleeping Beauty as a Diamond Edition Blu-Ray in 2014. How can they make it look or sound any better? I think I am just going to stick with my Platinum Edition Blu-Ray from 2008. My guess is Disney will simply repackage the Platinum Edition as a Diamond Edition with a few new extras.

Fall 2014 would have been the perfect time to release Aladdin as a Diamond Edition Blu-Ray.

I can see Disney possible giving Sleeping Beauty a 3D Conversion, but the film already was given a beautiful 4K restoration for the Platinum Edition Blu-Ray and the picture & sound quality is already damn perfect. I really don't know how they can improve upon that for a re-release.

I can't believe they're not re-releasing it before Maleficent is in theaters. You'd think they'd do a movie cash type of deal like they did with Monsters, Inc. so they'd get more sales.
