Default The Innkeepers (2011)

The Innkeepers - Blu-ray

Latest film from Ti West (The House of the Devil) has been announced to be coming from Dark Sky Films and MPI Media Group. Release date is April 24, 2012.

One of my favorite movies from last year. Cannot wait for this.

Very interested in seeing this, how would you rate it in comparison with The House of the Devil?

I liked it a lot, but enjoyed House of the Devil a bit more. Mainly due to being more satisfied with the ending to that film. Nonetheless, the Innkeepers was excellent and I'd recommend it to horror fans.
Looking forward to this blu-ray and the commentary with West, Paxton and Healy.

You'll know it's a Ti West film from the start if you've seen HOTD, and if you're a fan of that then you should like it. There's a lot more laughs here and even more character development, as this has two main characters to play off of each other. I know there are a lot of people who don't like it (see the IMDb ratings), but if you like films that take their time, you'll enjoy it. As far as rating it in comparison, I'd have to give the edge to The Innkeepers. I love both though.

Edit: to addressing the ending, I personally loved it.

I loved it. I'll definitely be picking this one up.

The first half of the film had an 80's, kind of Ghostbusters/Goonies feel to it and the second half has the scares.

I watched this in the dark about 2am in the morning and I was scared shit-less.

It very much seems to be a love it/ hate it kind of film.

I can easily see why some might find it too slow, but personally, that's probably what I love about it most. I also loved the characters, the setting, and the atmosphere.

Absolutely loved House of the Devil, and I mean really loved it.

But this was terrible. I've never seen someone act worse than those 2 cardboard cutout characters running the hotel. Especially the girl. Completely ruined it for me

Watched this on Vudu about a month ago and loved it. Wasn't a lot thrown at you so I bet some will think its boring. Really the preview shows about half the scares.

Oh well i will be avoiding the trailer then, and just buy this if it spoils all the good scenes.

I wouldn't say terrible, though it doesn't touch House of the Devil in terms of quality. Whereas that film starts out a little slow but the suspense slowly builds to a crescendo and a great ending, this film has a fun first half but when things get to the parts where its supposed to be scary it starts to fall apart and the ending I just plain hated. The best thing I can say about it is its half of a decent movie.

I'll buy this but it has more to do with Sara Paxton being in it than the actual film's quality.

On Twitter, I asked Dark Sky Films to do a Gorgon VHS pre-order bonus with Innkeepers like they did for HotD. They responded that they'll consider it but being two months away I can't see it. The HotD VHS tape is one of my favorite things I own.

I wanted to see this film but the closest theater from me playing it was over 2.5 hrs away so I figured save the gas money and wait for the blu. I was going to order it on demand but now that the blu release is only 2 months away I can just wait for that. I loved and own The House of the Devil and I like Sarah Paxton so I should like this film plus I don't mind a film that takes its time building the scares and suspense

Didn't love it the first time I saw it, but I'll watch it again when it comes out. See if I might like it well enough for a purchase.

I wouldn't count on liking this if you liked House of the Devil. Loved HotD, this film was boring and never became scary. I don't mind slow build up, as long as it builds up to something.

I loved this. But, it is very much a love it/hate it film. I've shown it to several friends and they all thought it was..."alright".
But, then again, they didn't care for House of the Devil either.
I've already pre-ordered.
