Well Go USA goes 4K!

Well Go USA announced their first 4K release-Shadows. Might this be an indication that Phantasm might see 4K? Or, is it possible that a 4K Dawn might see release in the US?

All speculation, from me-I have no credentials.

Interesting speculation SG my friend, would LOVE Phantasm and DAWN in 4K!
I'm hoping this opens the door for other smaller labels to get into the 4K arena.

In regards to op, I'd love more titles by them on 4k. My biggest hope would be the IP Man films, along with maybe Wolf Warrior or Train to Busan. I haven't seen Shadow yet, but I'll definitely be blind-buying the 4k to support releases by them on the format.

this films getting a 4K in HK, which i’d say shows that any well go usa equivalent will currently rely on the availability of a master made by someone else.

Phantasm 4K restoration is pretty good I mean if they go UHD, HDR10 and Dolby Vision with Dolby Atmos audio upgrade it would be nice but not sure they can do that with the sequels especially Phantasm II since it was release under Shout Factory which is the version WGU got for the box set.


If anything Well Go USA should first get Ichi The Killer upgraded to 4K UHD, HDR10 and Dolby Vision with all the bonus features that is missing from the DVD release.

Bloody Disgusting also exclusively learned that the “Phantasm Sphere Collection”, in addition to all the Phantasm films and previous supplemental materials, will be packed with new extras. The centerpiece will be a meticulous 4K restoration of 1988’s Phantasm II, personally supervised by Coscarelli.

Other phantastic extras include a newly-created Dolby Atmos track of the original Phantasm (by Post Haste Digital) and a new, longer feature-length documentary on the making of Phantasm: Ravager, with more to come.
