Why is 'Bad Taste' (1987) rated 6.7, whereas 'Fresh Meat' (2012) is rated 5.4 at IMDB? I can understand that that 'Bad Taste' having been around for 30 years and 'Fresh Meat' only 5 years, there would be more votes for 'Bad Taste', but 39,000+ vs. less than 1400 votes for 'Fresh Meat'?
These are both splatter comedies but IMO 'Fresh Meat' is better made, plus both are available on disc and VOD throughout the world. I would appreciate opinions as to why. |

Because Bad Taste is a trashy cult classic that established itself pretty successfully worldwide mostly on home video thirty years ago now at a time when that sort of film (ie: gross out puerile, foul mouthed, horror-sci-fi-splatter comedy), especially coming out of New Zealand, wasn't really all-too-common and so could still feel fresh. It also proved to be the debut of a pretty significant filmmaking talent so interest in his subsequent works only fuelled interest in Bad Taste going forward.
Fresh Meat on the other hand came out at a time when we've seen a million and one low-budget independent splatter films with the same kind of tone so it doesn't really stand out to the same extent. It's just not "fresh" in the way Bad Taste was. Last edited by Shingster; 01-21-2018 at 12:22 AM. |

Bad taste is classic and has a niche following... the other film I have not seen.
