Default Blood Diner (1987) (Collector's Series)

http://www.thescreamcast.com/2016/05...ly-on-the-way/

I knew Lionsgate would wake up and cash-in on Scream Factory's success to do special edition blu-rays of the stuff they own.

This 1987 guilty pleasure is one i always enjoyed as i remembered when i was 7 the year after it came out in theaters i rented it on video and thought it was disgusting as hell but a fun movie. This one reminds me of Re-Animator, the HG Lewis films and the Tales from the Crypt story "What's Cooking" (similar subject matter on cannibalism with chefs who serve victims to costumers).

Hope 4K or 2K scan/transfer from the uncut negative and extras abound even retrospective to commentary.

Just a guess, but maybe they'll have something at Comic Con?

Does Lionsgate ever bother to announce Catalog releases? I honestly don't know, but I suspect not. When the film is getting ready to ship it will likely show up on a press release for what is shipping soon, but these titles aren't a priority for Lionsgate, so why bother announcing them when they can focus on their next big (modern) production. Lionsgate used to pump out several Horror Blu Rays around Fall several years ago, so hopefully this is a return to form and they have 5-6 titles planned for this year... (of which 2 of them would appear to be Blood Diner and Chopping Mall).

I do enjoy me some Blood Diner though it is so so bad. It's basically an unofficial sequel to Blood Feast. Ishtar, Sheetar? Same difference.

I do want to do a Sheetar Halloween costume one year, but I'll probably have to tone it down if I want to go to any bars. lol

Not necessarily soon. Maybe they're releasing anniversary editions only, which means that they could be waiting until late 2017 before they release it

Perhaps! and maybe for Halloween they might and who knows if at Comic Con at San Diego that they might do announcements and follow Scream/Arrow/Synapses's footsteps in horror/sci-fi/thriller BDs to make a comeback in style.

Slaughter High special edition would be kickass in either 2K or 4K restoration from the uncut original negative and extras abound to please those who enjoyed the film.

I agree that special editions of The Gate, Warlock, Meet The Applegates (never had a blu-ray or DVD release as this New World Picture which is owned by Lionsgate), uncut Return of the Living Dead 3, Near Dark remastered 30th anniversary edition, The Wrath, Alligator, Dead of Night, Link (1986), Dead of Night (1945) etc. be da bomb too, it would be a dream come true for horror/sci-fi/thriller fans for the titles owned by Lionsgate to get the proper treatment they deserve badly.

I will be getting this and Chopping Mall for sure come the month of Sept nothing like something good old 80's cheesy horror flick. It would be nice if they decided to come out some of the other titles mentioned in this thread on BD too.

These 2 are a nice start. Sounds like LG is aiming to join the club and wants to begin exploiting their considerable genre library. Either that or there's been a regime change that's friendly toward releasing catalog titles. Something tells me it's the latter case and that these guys really want to make genre fans happy. Hoping Superstition makes the schedule sometime soon.

You liked Superstition? I just saw that on HBO Now last month and was a little disappointed in it. It is the one with the witch who was burned and then put in a pond?

Yup. I thought it was awesome when I first saw it when I was about 8 and I still think it's one of the best witch movies ever made lol. It's just a hardcore, nasty little horror flick with great EFX and atmosphere.

I guess if I had watched it at an earlier age I likely would have seen it very much like you in that regard. Now much older not quite enough gore and T&A but still well worth seeing and if Lionsgate ever did truly open their flood of media being held hostage I would buy it as well...how was Blood Diner? I have heard of it but somehow missed it when it had its day.

Could be a mix of both. Without Hunger Games anymore and the Divergent series becoming more of a disappointment with each release, they don't have much lined up. Heck, they're going to try and do another Saw movie now. Maybe they thought they could squeeze some income from their massive library until they figure out their next franchise move.

Paperhouse is one I could see coming. It's already out elsewhere on blu-ray and is one of Lionsgate's most underrated acquisitions; truly a magnificent film that's pretty creepy and, honestly, makes me tear up every time.

As for Slaughter High, that's probably my most-wanted LG movie. It's a blast, but part of me wonders if proper elements exist for it, because even Arrow UK only ever released it on DVD. I hope I'm wrong though.

I can't wait to check out Blood Diner just in time for Halloween!

There's so much great stuff Lionsgate has access to that I hope see released, and the fact that Chopping Mall and Blood Diner were chosen as inaugural titles is very encouraging that we may see more. Personally outside of the usual big name stuff (Hellraiser III, ROTLD 3, The Gate, Wishmaster set, Waxwork) I'm hoping for The Unnameable, The Unholy, Ghoulies III, Dee Snider's Strangeland, etc to be mixed in the bunch.

Agreed. Hopefully the high SRP of $39.99 doesn't cause too many people to pass.

I'll also throw out Bloody Murder and Bloody Murder II. They'd make a fun slasher double feature, even though they're horrible.

Blair Witch 2: Book of Shadows would be a dream come true, it really is an underrated film, and IMO superior to the first one.

Their catalog is seemingly endless and I hope they're encouraged to continue releasing titles after these two (and not just around October, like the major studios)!
