![]() ![]() 25 years ago this month on 2/19/1993 we got the final movie in Evil Dead Trilogy. I love this movie its funny and its the movie where Ash became the Ash we all know and love. I got my copy autographed by Bruce Campbell last year so its even more special for me Hail to the King baby! Last edited by ben6543; 02-16-2018 at 07:08 AM. |

Saw the première in Leicester square, Bruce Campbell was there, gave a speech before the movie. Was a great night. They showed the apocalyptic ending, I got a total surprise when the S-Mart was shown in cinemas after!

I've seen it at least 100 times.
I also owned the VHS, taped the USA TV version (different cut, alternate one-liners), had the theatrical laserdisc, and purchased 3 DVD releases as well as the Boomstick Edition Blu-ray. I know it by heart, basically. I rate it an 8/10, but it's a 10/10 for my Fun Factor rating. |

I saw them in reverse order so it was weird going from bad ass, wisecracking Ash to the timid and scared Ash in the first one (with Evil Dead II ash being somewhere in between).

But AoD is its own thing, even ret-conning the conclusion to EDII. Fine with me, though, because it is one of the most "fun" anti-heroes of any movie, just like - as mentioned earlier - Jack Burton. His tongue is firmly placed in cheek, and the cheeky humor is a perfect accompaniment to his a-holery. The scene when he can't remember the words is one of the funniest scenes in movie history. Haha! I also love it when he comes riding back into town and everyone is praising him, and they're like "The Chosen One has returned! Yay!" Ash is like, "Yeah, yeah... uh huh. OK. Right. Get the **** outta my face!" I love it! |

I did not like this movie when I saw it in theater. I was expecting Evil Dead 3, but I got The Three Stooges Meet the Evil Dead.
It has grown on me over the years. ![]() |

When I first saw Army of Darkness opening night February 19, 1993, as a fan of Sam Raimi's Darkman (1990), I had no prior experience with Evil Dead and thought this guy was Jim Carrey for some reason. I was entertained by the film and especially Bruce Campbell's over the top humor and style. It was clear they were fans of the Three Stooges, and the comical mood made forgiving the lower budget skeleton effects part of the fun.
Looking back, because it was made for mainstream audiences, it lost a lot of the goriness that helped make the original a horror classic. The sequel Evil Dead 2 used more green blood, which diminished the gore effect, but still plenty of it and a classic horror-comedy. This was more of a comedy with minimal horror, and more like a fantasy-comedy movie instead. These days, it would easily get a PG-13. Apparently it's said that it was going for PG13, but kept ending up with an R rating. Quote:
![]() I hear what you're saying and agree, the film has to be seen from a certain point of view, with new expectations compared to Evil Dead 1 especially, which was a more serious horror film with not nearly as much humor as Evil Dead 2. I also watched the movies in reverse order...the only reason I saw Army Of Darkness is because I was such a fan of Darkman.
