Default Insidious 5

Due to the huge success of "The Last Key"... The studio is moving forward with Insidious 5, it is “unlikely” to be another prequel in the vein of the last two chapters.

These films get worse with every additional entry. 4 has a hideous plot and is so loosely tied in, it's laughable.

Good God. They should have stopped after one (or before that, in my opinion).

Even people who like these movies grow less interested with each installment.

Not really:

Insidious - $54,009,150 ($97M worldwide)
Insidious Chapter 2 - $83,586,447 ($161.9M worldwide)
Insidious Chapter 3 - $52,218,558 ($112.9M worldwide)
Insidious: The Last Key - $67,232,050 ($164.3M worldwide)

The Last Key (with a January release date) is the biggest worldwide and 2nd biggest domestically.

Unlike the conjuring / Annabel movies which I'm not really that big of a fan of anyway, these movies have REALLY aged IMO.

The first movie is boring. The second when I tried watching it was a mess in terms of tone. It turns into an episode of Ghostfacers midway through the movie. What on earth was Wan thinking?

The 3rd is even more insufferable than Ouija. I will not bother with any more.

Good Lord.

I keep complaining about how much I hate these films, but then I go see them opening weekend anyway. I don't think the studio differentiates between money made and people liking these films. Sure, it might be a financial success, but definitely not a critical one.

You seriously think the studio gives a crap if you like it? You keep shoveling your money towards the series opening weekend. They don't care if you like them. They care if you keep seeing them. And since it seems like you're going to keep doing that... they're going to keep making them.

Well, studios care about financial success a lot more.

I'm in as long as they finally follow up on that cliffhanger from the second film. But yeah, this franchise is starting to get repetitive (though I did like The Last Key's formula shake up
[Show spoiler]of the young woman in the basement being an actual human captive, too bad they quickly dropped the humans can be demons as well theme for more possession
) so would be great if we get an actual finale.

I'm in, but apparently I'm one of the few that have enjoyed each of the movies in the franchise.

As long as they keep turning a decent profit Sony will keep pumping them out. It’s their Saw or Conjuring franchise.

It's not a Sony franchise. First two were distributed by now defunct Indie company FilmDistrict and then they went over to Focus Features/Universal after a merger.

Sony Pictures distributed the first 4 films on home video so I was going by that. I never saw them in theaters. Thanks for the info.

Right. Look at super hero films which are so overdone and over saturated yet....they are doing a Shazam movie. It’s like... Shazam? Seriously?

So Insidious 5 isn’t that shocking that it got green lighted.

The first two are extremely solid. The third was passable, but that's an extreme stretch, especially after the third act. The Last Key was one of the worst movies I've seen.

Of course, I'll see it no matter what at this point, but I'm hoping it's an actual sequel and not another dumb prequel.
