What Should I Consider? So Many Options?

Finding it hard to get a straight up answer from companies. So need some help from the well educated people here.

I will be purchasing a Mitsi HC7900DW projector. It will be used in a living room with minimal ambient light. Only night time use, primarily with movies, maybe some sport. The lounge does get fairly dark. White walls and ceiling, no windows directly next to the wall that will be projected on.

Looking for a manual or motorized, tab tensioned screen at least 92"

Budget is about $1500USD, could maybe push an extra couple hundred if the right screen is available.

Is that just for the screen? That is a good budget. You should get something really good.

Yeah I have, but I can't find anything on those VistaView screens, are they any good?

Rapollo stands by their products. They are really good for that.

The Mitsi HC7900DW is rated at 1500 Lumens. They never get their rated Lumens. I think users said about 900-1000 Lumens calibrated. Which is really good.
With the elevated Lumens it will have slightly elevated black level which is not too bad for living room (non bat cave) environments.
I would say that screen would suit. It has a 1.2 - 1.3 screen gain. With that gain your Lumens and Screen size it should produce a nice bright picture. You could look at a lower gain screen to produce a lower black level however most people prefer a brighter image rather than lower black levels.

I am a deep inky black fan. Have a Panasonic St50 Plasma at the moment. Blacks are like a black hole. Love em.

Then you need a lower gain screen or a larger screen.

If you are set on 92" then I would suggest a flat screen gain. 1:1 or screen gain 1.

Either that or go to a larger screen size.

You could try this old school trick and use a neutral density filter. I use to love those things. It is a filter that screws on the end of the lens that acts like sunglasses. You only use a .3 ND or .6 ND. I use to use a .6 so for every part of light it reduces it by 1/3 (.3 ND) or 2/3 (.6 ND). Which makes deeper blacks with the side effect of less brightness.

Mine is a standard height kiwi ceiling. I have a 105" and the speaker underneath is bang on ear level.

Ohh, I didn't see those ones. They will definetly be better. They will mostly eliminate roll lines.

A friend of mine use to have a similar screen. He would leave his down when not in use. Roll up when using the TV and then roll down again. This would 99.9% get rid of rolls.

Yeah that will be the plan. Am going to build like a fake wall. Build it with a "roof" and some wings out to the side. Will use aluminum framing and then attach some thin MDF and line with black felt material. Will help reduce the ambient light coming off the walls and roof. Will leave a hole cut out for the TV so I can rise and lower the projector screen when not in use.

I'm just having a look at the price for the 2nd screen at $1900 and thinking surely I can get better from e-bay for a cheaper price knowing how smashed we get on prices here?

I've gone back to the guy I bought my benq w7000 off from eBay. I remember him talking about dragonfly screens at a good price. Will see what he said.

Not sure about shipping to NZ, but I got my elite 120" electric screen from Projector People for about $380 USD
