Could be good could be awful. I always loved Will Graham as a character and he has been the only threat to Lecter in the Hannibal universe. Would love a sequel to Hannibal where they pull Will Graham in (William Peterson) to hunt Lecter down...
"Hannibal "The Twilight Saga: Eclipse" and "30 Days of Night" helmer David Slade is set to direct the premiere episode of NBC's "Hannibal" series featuring the characters from Thomas Harris' novel "Red Dragon" (ie. Will Graham and Hannibal Lecter). Slade recently helmed the pilot episode of NBC's new Jason Isaacs-led drama "Awake"." http://www.darkhorizons.com/news/234...nibal-newsroom Hannibal himself havn't been casted yet but Hugh Dancy has been cast as Will Graham. |

Some of you need to rewatch Manhunter. That film is excellent.
Also, why diss Petersen and Cox? They were both great. I personally am optimistic for this show. Judging by the talent involved thus far, I'm willing to bet it will exceed most people's expectations and has the potential to be a surprise hit. I'm certainly giving the pilot a chance. |

So this guy's credentials are Twilight and 30 Days Of Night...lol.
I don't know how I feel about this. Like others have stated, I honestly cannot see anybody else but Hopkin's fulfilling this great role. I don't think this will end up working out ![]() |

Judging by the talent involved, this isn't going to be some crappy, typical NBC show. Bryan Fuller, Hugh Dancy, Laurence Fishburne, Mads Mikkelsen, Gillian Anderson, Eddie Izzard, Lance Henriksen, Ellen Greene, Gina Torres, Caroline Dhavernas, Ellen Muth, etc. I can't wait.

I really don't think NBC has much faith in this show just because they gave it their Thursday night death slot. Since ER ended in 2009 11 different shows have had the Thursday at 10:00 time slot and none of them have done well. 9 of the shows were cancelled, 30 Rock was moved to a different time slot, and Rock Center continued just because it's so cheap to produce. If NBC believed in this show at a minimum they would have premiered it on a different day with The Voice as a lead-in.

Cox will always be the definitive Lecter for me, Hopkins is about entertainment but Cox is about acting. Lecter is supposed to be a psychiatrist whose antisocial habits are perfectly concealed until Graham's flash of insight, if you saw Hopkins' smirking, glassy eyed loon with a voice that's somewhere between Peter Lorre and Liberace, you'd cancel your appointment PDQ. Cox is subtle and deadpan, he relies on other characters' fear of him and the elaborate precautions to establish how dangerous Lecter is, he shows Lecter's quick thinking in the way he handles the dialogue, slipping in the most worrying line casually "would you like to leave me your home phone number?" but there's a hint of steel in "smell yourself" and more of the character's intelligence in the scene with the phone. Cox dominates the film despite a great performance from Tom Noonan even though he has only a very short time on screen.
Manhunter as a film is dated because of its visual style which is only to be expected from the director whose visual style helped define the 80s with Miami Vice. Cox is simply one of Britain's best actors, working mostly in cameos where he steals scenes but his lead role in The Escapist and his performance in LIE are excellent. He's also known for the long running radio series McLevy and his current sitcom Bob Servant: Independent is very funny. As for the TV series of Lecter, why not? Thomas Harris' books have gotten rapidly worse since Silence and the character, barely plausible at the best of times, is now pretty much a pop-culture joke |

I didn't like it at all. It's way too weird and was really difficult to get into. I thought it was boring. Even if a decent amount of people tune into the premiere I don't think they'll stick around. Just too odd. I don't believe I'll continue watching. Very disappointing. Was expecting something good after the reviews.
