Have yet to see the original, but the new one felt like it was exploiting the rape scenes more so than using them to "give justification" for revenge kills.

I think the rape scenes in the original were alot "rougher" to watch. Just when you think it's over, it's not. The revenge bits in the remake, might be better. But they seem a little extravagant and/or thought out.

For some reason when I tried to snatch this up at my local Wal-Mart, it was described as being recalled. I've been somewhat interested in seeing the remake after my film as art teacher showed the original during a B-movie week phase.

I'm the opposite. I have only watched the original and felt no reason to watch a remake. It was brutal to make it through seeing it once.

Ha, yeah my roommate and I were on a horror movie kick when I was in college and were renting a new horror movie at least 3 or 4 times a week... And we picked up that one knowing nothing about it... This was in VHS days, We ended up fast forwarding halfway through the first eternal rape scene. Started watching again when she got away, then realized we had another round to go. We made it through it, but like I said. It was brutal. Type of movie that creates an awkward silence after its over.

I doubt it has been recalled as I saw one this morning at Best Buy. One blu and 2 dvd copies in fact. I rarely see the individual releases on any format anymore.

Both films are absolutely repugnant, but especially the sadistic remake.

I Spit on Your Grave is an amazing and complex movie that as a lot more depth than just the intense rape segment. [the remake not so much]. There is a lot of commentary on gender dynamics. The long 18 minute rape segment is an important element to the theme. If you have not already check out the Joe Bob Briggs commentary on the original as soon as you can; it's one of the most interesting commentaries I've ever heard.

The remake isn't that bad, it's more watchable than a lot of horror movies these days.

I remember getting this back in October during the BB U&S for $4.99. Well worth it, IMO.

Just picked this sucker up for $7.99 at my local record shop.

Despite it being a used item, it still has the security sticker on, so its basically a brand new copy.

Better than shelling out big bucks for it on Amazon, i'd have to say.

Prices came down to earth after a brief freak out period there. I kinda doubt the 2-pack or solo of the original are even OOP now. Perfect storm of low-stock and rumors methinks.

Agreed. It's probably one of the best remakes of the last 10-20 years. And from me that's a HUGE compliment because I absolutely HATE or refuse to watch 99.9% of horror remakes. Because well...they are garbage 99% of the time. At least the few I've seen (aside from this one) have been.

But yeah I should watch the original film again soon. I grabbed this same blu-ray two-pack at HMV a few years ago for like $15 IIRC.

Yet ironically I remember that day they had the standalone version of the original film on blu-ray for like $30 or something.

Yes. The original film is OOP on blu-ray from Anchor Bay in all forms, solo and double features.

The original is still available at Amazon, and the remake is in the double feature that includes its sequel.

I have been wondering for awhile if Shout or Arrow would upgrade the original film in a special edition. I've kinda been holding off buying it for that reason. Still never seen it, or the rebooted franchise.
