August 9, 2018 - Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) today announced that it will introduce a specially designed PlayStation®4 Pro (PS4™Pro) “PlayStation®4 Pro 500 Million Limited Edition” (HDD 2TB) from August 24, 2018, and will be available at a manufacturer's suggested retail price of 49,980 yen in Japan, $ 499 USD in North America and €499 in Europe*1. With PlayStation® (PS) hardware sell through surpassing 525.3 million units worldwide, the Limited Edition PS4™Pro is a thank you to all the fans who have supported and enjoyed entertainment on the platform. Only 50,000 limited edition PS4 Pro consoles will be available and for the first time comes in a dark blue translucent design on PlayStation®4 (PS4™).



Since the launch of the original PlayStation (SCPH-1000) in Japan on December 3, 1994, PS platforms have evolved, embracing new technologies and thriving in a fast paced and competitive market. Succeeded by PlayStation®2, PSP® (PlayStation®Portable), PlayStation®3, PlayStation®Vita, and PS4, the platforms have consistently provided a variety of innovative entertainment to the world. Moreover, PS4 surpassed 81.2 Million units as of July 22, 2018, and continues to further expand.

I'd much rather have a reissue of the grey anniversary one but this is leagues better than the last limited one they did that was blue with the controller button symbols on it. Celebration of Play model or something?

Limited to 50,000 worldwide I'd question if it was even worth having multiple retails having an allocation. I can just see it ending in tears because they will over sell it, how many will they get, like 10 each?

So the limited edition PS4s look cool, but I'm guessing those who buy them probably don't want 2 PS4s and trade in the old one. Or do many gamers interested in the new designs and updates collect these in numbers?

Question now is: do I want to add a third PS4 to my household? I love translucent consoles (the last one I bought was a Crystal Xbox) and accessories, but this LE offering is da bomb diggity. Would take this over the Spider-Man PS4 Pro, no question. I do have a couple of weeks to decide before the pre-order window opens.

The 20th Anniversary PS4 (non-Pro) was only made in 12,0xx copies (some weird number to signify the original launch date iirc). I was lucky enough to have been able to order one when they went up for sale here in Canada, they sold out in seconds.

I just bought the GoW LE Pro earlier this year so I won't be getting this one... at $640 CAD, it's a little too pricey. Does look pretty sweet and if money was no issue, I would definitely try to snag one.

Dark colors don't make the PS4 Pro look good IMO. It should be a light color, to reveal the two dark, horizontal lines it has. That makes it really stand out.

Having already upgraded from a PS4 to a Pro, I can't justify getting one of these. Would like the 2TB in built storage though!
