Italy The Art of Flight (2011) Blu-ray 3D [Region Locked / Free]

This one was made last year, and after great reviews, has been converted to 3D.

It really looks stunning and goes for a full 80 minutes.

This one is really demo material. The subtle differences in snow colour really shows how well calibrated your telly is.

The opening graphic looked amazing too as did the Dolby logo sequence.

Here is an interview with the man who produced the conversion -

Anyway, check it out, highly reccomended

Great news! I have the 2D Blu-ray of this and it is pure demo material for PQ and AQ.
Does the 3D version still have the 7.1 Dolby True HD audio? The sound is stunning on this and the snowboarding and amazing cinematography will truly shine in 3D.
Must-have status, for certain.

What region is it?

It may region free as I cannot find it on the box. And it is TrueHD, but Dolby Digital for ps3 owners.

Thumbs up

cool. Thanks for the heads-up on this.
I have a PS3 & a BDP-S470, so I'll rock it on the 470!
Yeah, those different balls bouncing around with the Dolby logo at the beginning have to be pretty badass in 3D!

I emailed that site in AU to see if they actually have it. I don't think any place on the planet has it yet. 3 other AU sites say pre-order for Feb. 2013!!

Well, they emailed back and said it is in stock. I don't know what to think. Can't see any store getting them 2 months before anyone else in the same country?

I placed an order for one copy through JB Hi Fi at about 1:30pm yesterday and received an email at 6:40pm tonight that said it was dispatched and is on the way here.

Sookymonster, I didn't realize you actually had it. Very strange but I'm glad you have one. I can't explain it. Don't want to order one and find out I have to wait 2 months either.

Ray O blu - let us know when you get it!

The Art of Flight *½

by Nick Schager on December 2, 2012 Jump to Comments (0) or Add Your Own

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Buy on Amazon:Video

Snowboarding is extolled in glorious 3D by The Art of Flight, a Red Bull-produced documentary that primarily functions as a promo reel for its star athletes and as a demo reel for its glasses-required special effect. Curt Morgan's film is a beautifully shot affair, paying great tribute to its subjects' risky stunts and the majestic, untamed mountain ranges—in Chilean Patagonia, Alaska, Wyoming, Aspen, the Andes, and British Columbia—they race down with awe-inspiring skill. Capturing the snowboarders from myriad angles, and employing some breathtaking POV shots, Morgan provides ample amazing sights throughout; taking flight off homemade jumps (sometimes deliberately into tree branches) or navigating treacherously narrow terrain, star Travis Rice and his band of merry cohorts prove both their dexterity and bravery at every turn. But that's all there is to the film, which supplements its primary material with scant interviews in which the snowboarders reveal a fondness for clichés, most of them centered around the idea that to be truly alive, you have to push yourself past normal limits. Alongside such empty-headed soundbites, Morgan shoehorns in footage of the crew firing shotguns and tossing axes in a bit of down-time-crazy fun, but without any real sense of the snowboarders' individual personalities, these brief interruptions from the snow-shredding action merely underline how little the film has to say about these daredevils or the risks they take. That Morgan barely bothers to address the possible imprudence of such perilous behavior is ultimately something of a welcome relief, allowing the film to eschew judgmental pedantry in favor of simply celebrating the beauty of its many locales and the boarders' death-defying moves. But even at 80 minutes, The Art of Flight feels severely empty, an aesthetic showcase whose repetitive nature winds up diminishing the excitement of its breathtaking feats of mountainous flight.

Poor guy reminds me of Eeyore with the lack of enthusiasm in his review.
I find it ironic how he used so many descriptive adjectives and superlatives throughout the first half of the review, then it fizzled when he realized that he was merely watching an exceptional snowboarding demo Blu-ray and not an insightful biography on getting to know these superstar athletes.

Could you imagine if they would've spent the bulk of the running time simply "interviewing " the snowboarders instead of showcasing some of the most exhilarating, death-defying boarding on a 3D movie like this?
That wouldn't be very wise, now would it?
"Hey bro, come check out this amazing 3D Snowboarding Blu-ray I bought! The pop-outs are incredible during the sit-down interviews!"

Those that have seen this already know how amazing the PQ/AQ and overall experience really are.
When I receive my copy, I'll be sure to post my thoughts on the quality of the 3D conversion.

If anyone finds the 3D version in the US make sure to report back. Can't find it anywhere here for the life of me.

Looking forward to your thoughts on the 3d. I watched the 2d version again last night and what a disc! The PQ, the AQ and the actual material all come together for one amazing HT experience!

Well, I decided to place an order with JBhifi on Dec. 31. Still hasn't been shipped. I emailed them and they say this -

"Received your email looks like the store that has the stock is just waiting on delivery then will post out"

What does that mean? Their website says it's in stock now. I checked the stock status at multiple stores via the website and quite a few have it, so ship it!! Geez. I was thinking this was too good to be true and it's turning out like that.

Here's their latest email --

"After receiving your email I called the store in question and they have an error in their
stock holdings they have stock due to arrive shortly and when it arrives it will be posted on to you.

Hopefully this isn’t too much of a problem and that the delay is minimal."
