Default Anchor Bay claims another release, Yu-Gi-Oh! The Dark Side of Dimensions BD

I couldn't find any actual topic on the series here.

Anchor Bay has ruined another release as they have now given the new Yu-Gi-Oh! movie dubtitles.

Seriously, do they not understand this is 2017?

Well that's disappointing to say the least. We finally start getting dual audio Yu-Gi-Oh! releases and this is how we get them.

Bonds Beyond Time was good though, right? I only watched it once ever since I bought it because I didn't like it.

Well we have all known for quite some time that they will be the ones releasing this movie. Dubtitles didn't help the Yu-Gi-Oh! Uncut DVDs from 4Kids and Funimation that was cancelled after just 3 Volumes, but it's not too surprising that they did this with this movie too because Starz even did it with Ghost In The Shell SAC.

Can we also blame Lionsgate, too?

Oh, I'm sure Anchor Bay will blame everyone they can but themselves. I expect every post about it to be deleted on their pages too.

According to the reviewer (and I'm guessin' that one user he referenced was Draculi), it does have accurate subs but's it's non-removable if selecting the Japanese audio option. Any rebuttal?

Is there a reason why the source is 1.85:1 but the screenshots are 1.78:1?
BTW the japanese bluray is 1.85:1, with small black bars on top/bottom.

It's not uncommon for big distributors to open up or crop 1.85:1 films from recent years to 1.78:1 for home video release, but I don't know why. Some examples are Snowpiercer from Anchor Bay that was cropped to 1.78:1 and Warner Bros' Pacific Rim and District 9 (Japan only) that are open matte 1.78:1 on Blu-ray.

I like how it takes up more of the screen in 1:78:1, but it's a minimal change at most. That is the ONLY aspect ratio crop that makes sense, and that I'm fine with. Still, original aspect ratio is optimal.

That review is sort of confusing in mentioning if it is in fact dubtitles or not..

It might be that the subs are accurate except for the card names, which are the English equilvelants. I think that's how it is for the UK release.

If this is the case then as far as I'm concerned that's not a big deal at all.

Nope, that wasn't me. I didn't PM anyone.

However, he never really said if they were accurate translations or not.

He never said they were dubtitles either. I assume someone who already owns a copy can check the Japanese audio and compare.

That's what someone already did, but isn't it the job of the reviewer to give us the facts? A review is supposed to help persuade you as to whether or not you should buy something. It didn't tell us the facts on the subtitles.

That someone you mentioned only said that there's dubtitles, but is it because he or she enabled the English SDH, or was it because it was transcribed from the Japanese audio option?

That is what it was on the Japanese audio side.

If they're readable, then why does it matter?

Because they aren't accurate translations. The English dub completely changes the context of the movie. The movie is supposed to be set after the manga. The English dub changes the movie to be set in the anime universe and follows the garbage 4Kids dub. Thus, the dubtitles are going to reflect that crap instead of giving me the story Takahashi wrote.
