On BBC Four a week tomorrow (Friday 1st May) is an hour-long documentary about The Shadows called The Shadows at Sixty.

Several weeks ago, also on BBC Four, was a documentary about Eric Burdon, the lead singer of group The Animals.

Have checked and it's still available on Sky On Demand, a feature-length documentary about The Hollies called The Hollies: Look Through Any Window.

A new documentary is on Sky Documentaries in the next week, called Laurel Canyon.

I Can Go for That: The Smooth World of Yacht Rock [part 1] was an excellent and informative documentary presented by Katie Puckrik (haven't seen her for years). As well as explaining its origins in 1970's America, there were plenty of video clips from several artists from that period. Really nostalgic stuff for those of a certain age, although for me personally, there were one or two songs here from the very early 70's that I couldn't remember, but they were great to hear.

Some of the music featured in this episode included 'Hold The Line' (1978 Toto), 'A Horse With No Name' (1971 America), 'Summer Breeze' (1972 Seals & Crofts), 'One Of These Nights' (1975 The Eagles), 'What A Fool Believes' (1978 The Doobie Brothers), 'She's Gone' (1973, re-released 1976 Hall & Oates) and 'Reelin' In The Years' (1972 Steely Dan) - a few others too which escape my memory.

The documentary ended with a short burst of Toto's hit 'Africa' which leads nicely into next week which deals with early 80's yacht rock, and this episode in particular will be of special interest to me. Thanks again to OceanBlue for bringing this series to my attention.

Saw in the listings last night, that next Sunday night on Sky Documentaries is a new feature-length documentary, about the female group The Go-Gos. I know that Belinda Carlisle and Jane Wiedlin were members, but I don't think they were a duo.

Think it was shown on Sky Arts (well before Sky Documentaries started), a documentary called California Dreamin': The Songs of the Mamas and the Papas. Watched this a few times with my dad. We enjoyed this one, especially the anecdote by John Phillips about how he came up with the song Monday Monday.

Airing on BBC Four a week on Friday (following the World Championship Snooker) is a feature-length documentary about group The Real Thing called Everything: The Real Thing Story.

There has been a Blu-ray pre-order listing for this documentary on Amazon UK for a long time.

I think that's the same documentary. We got the documentary on Sky Arts catch-up, and the total run time (including ads) was one hour and fifteen minutes. So an hour long run-time on the BBC seems about right. It included archive video interviews with John and Michelle Phillips (before realising she was one member of The Mamas and the Papas, I knew her best for her role on long-running drama series Knots Landing (my favourite TV series), archive audio interview clips with Mama Cass, and video interviews with other music artists (including Scott McKenzie who sang one of my favourite songs from the 60s, Eve of Destruction).

Watched last night the new feature-length documentary The Go-Gos. I enjoyed it more as it went on. Didn't know much at all about the all-female group before this, except that I knew of two members who were in the group (Belinda Carlisle and Jane Wiedlin).

Also, it was full of fruity language throughout. I shall check to see if there is a Greatest Hits album (there were three albums in total, based on the documentary).

A reminder that the Real Thing documentary is on BBC Four this Friday night.

I'm sorry to say I missed it. I'm annoyed with myself about it as this was the one in particular I wanted to see. BBC4 do repeat quite regularly from what I can tell, so I'll just keep an eye on their website and hope for the best.

Come to think of it, this might be on i-player.

Just checked it and it's still available for 26 days. Great. I've never used i-player before so I completely forgot about it.

This song I think was mentioned during the first part of the Yacht Rock documentary.

Watched the documentary Everything - The Real Thing Story this past weekend. Well worth watching. It covered the groups roots, and had it's sad moments.

Found out a couple of days ago about a Bee Gees documentary (named after one of their earlier songs) which is getting a DVD and Blu-ray release in the UK, How Can You Mend a Broken Heart.

This may be a repeat, but I haven't seen it before. Saw in this week's issue of TV & Satellite Week magazine that airing a week on Friday (20th November) on BBC Four is one-off documentary Gerry Rafferty: Right Down the Line.

Watched the majority of How Can You Mend a Broken Heart last night (got about ten minutes left to watch).

Disappointed again, as yet another Bee Gees documentary where You Win Again (probably my favourite Bee Gees song) wasn't mentioned or discussed. The majority of this new documentary has been spent on

[Show spoiler]the Saturday Night Fever and Spirits Having Flown albums (especially the former).

One of the contributors (aka 'talking heads') was very scathing about

[Show spoiler]the latter disco era (when a backlash started, which the Bee Gees were apparently caught in the middle of).

Noticed that premiering on Sky Documentaries next Sunday night is a new documentary:

- Who Killed the KLF? (Sky Documentaries, Saturday 2nd July at 9 pm - 10.50 pm).

Might watch this one. There is also a repeat airing in the coming week of a documentary about The Doobie Brothers:

- The Doobie Brothers: Let the Music Play (Sky Arts, Sunday 3rd July at 10.25 pm - 0.25 am).

DTSBOY, do you know if last Saturday night's airing on Sky Arts of feature-length music documentary Gary Numan: Resurrection was a UK TV premiere? It's being shown again on Sky Arts this coming Saturday (20th August) at 1 am - 2.30 am.
