I know this could probably be posted into the Alien Anthology thread in the North American section, but I felt it deserves it own thread. But if the mods feel like they must merge, please do.
I watched Aliens recently and I felt it was as much of a tour de force as it was when I watched it on telly as a cub. It's so good I think i'll have a late night screening of it with my missus on my birthday tomorrow ![]() What is your favourite scene in Jim Cameron's sci fi classic and why? I'll post my favourite scene a bit later. |

Either the alien rising out of the water behind Newt or the reveal of the Queen.

I think my favorite scene would have to be when Ripley and Newt stumble onto the eggs and then it slowly reveals the Queen. The fact that it's done with no score, just silence, makes it all the more fantastic.
In second place would probably be when the soldiers reach the colony for the first time and they realize that the blips on the screen aren't people but Aliens. |

When Hudson (?) pops his head through the ceiling tile in the infirmary & sees it's full of Aliens and they kind of quietly slink back with the light. This is the kind of creepiness that has been completely lost in the GGI age.

It's very difficult to choose a favourite scene in a film that's full of memorable ones. The entire 3rd act is brilliantly executed from the moment where a convincingly tense Ripley wrestles with her fear and survival instincts in the elevator to prior to the Newt rescue to the screams of The Queen falling into outer space, each frame displays unparalleled energy.
For the sake of the thread, however, i'm going to have to agree with iScottie and Astro Zombie on The Queen reveal. Like Astro said, theres no score, just pure wind and the sounds of the Queen's breath. Beautiful visual and aural designs right there. It's a brilliant scene because theres just so much going on in it. I think that this is the first and only time we see a human communicating with the aliens. The mother theme reaches epic proportions here as Ripley immediately spots a key weakness in her opponent - her babies. I love the entire communication between the two. 'Do not **** with my baby and I won't **** with yours', is what Ripley's basically saying, isn't it? T he twist, however, is that this scene also turns out to be the scene where we finally see some cathartic violence with Ripley on the good end of it. I think it's fair to say that she has a near nervous breakdown during the moment she pumps every bullet, grenade and flame into The Queen's eggs. After being victimised, the nightmares, and, most importantly, the loss of her own daughter and attempt on her surrogate daughter's life, Ripley goes for broke, motherly instincts kick in. She's barely thinking logically at this point as is not only trying to get rid of these creatures, but genuinely hit The Queen where it hurts the most. It's both the right thing to do and cruel at the same time. This is why the director's cut is so important, that scene becomes even more pivotal than it was in the leaner theatrical cut. Sure, you can argue that Ripley only responded because she had no choice - the face hugger was about to come out of the hatched egg..but I look back at that scene and think that Ripley would have went Rambo on The Queen and her cronies regardless because she had so much mental baggage to deal with. She's also exacting revenge for her co workers on LV 426. I've always found it such a powerful moment in the film and still do today. |

The late Stan Winston's giant marionette aka The Queen was just badass! The closeup shots are just awesome and that is one of the reasons why I love practical shots/creatures.
With all of this Aliens talk over the past few days, I am going to go put that on this afternoon! Cool thread BTW! |
