Thumbs up The Blu-ray.com Community's Top 20 Steven Spielberg Films

THIS IS THE BLU-RAY.COM COMMUNITY'S TOP 20 STEVEN SPIELBERG FILMS

Steven Spielberg is inarguably one of the greatest directors of all-time, living or otherwise. This thread will be this community's chance to come together and celebrate the father of the modern blockbuster and vote on their favorite Spielberg films.

The rules are very simple: only films directed by Steven Spielberg are eligible. We are excluding any of the many films that he has produced but has not directed himself. Also, we are only including films that he has received credit for directing. Poltergeist is not an eligible film. Although Duel was a film made for TV, it is eligible for this list.

To count, your list must AT LEAST have 10 Spielberg films, but please list NO MORE than 25. Also, please make no more than 1 list. You may edit your list as much as you like between now and the deadline, but only 1 list per member will be counted.

Also, 1 vote per film. Do not lump a film series together such as The Indiana Jones Saga. You must spread them out as individual entries. I will also not distinguish between "Director's Cuts" or "Theatrical Cuts" or "Special Editions", a la Close Encounters of the Third Kind.

The question is, am I ranking by how much I like the films, or which are technically "the best"? For example, Schindler's List is obviously a great film, but it is one I can't say I "like" and will probably never watch again.

Work in Progress:
  1. Raiders of the Lost Ark
  2. E.T. The Extra Terrestrial
  3. Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom
  4. Jurassic Park
  5. Saving Private Ryan
  6. Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade
  7. Close Encounters of the Third Kind
  8. Always
  9. Minority Report
  10. Ready Player One
  11. Amistad
  12. The Lost World: Jurassic Park
  13. Jaws
  14. War of the Worlds
  15. Schindler's List
The rest of his films ranked:
*I know I only ranked 15 above, but I don't want to give these films points
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
The Terminal
Lincoln
Catch Me If You Can
The Sugarland Express
Duel
Bridge of Spies
Hook
Munich
War Horse
The Post
Empire of the Sun
Adventures of Tintin
Color Purple
1941
A.I.

Whatever your preference is. My personal list will be a combination of both.

After seeing the Hitchcock poll, I thought there are very few other directors we could do this with. Not just for extensive filmography, but having a community where a large amount of people had actually seen the majority of it. Spielberg is the only other one that came to mind.

Been meaning to rewatch a certain few before I put my list out. As well as I need to see Ready Player One before so as well.

I'm not a huge Spielberg fan, but I shouldn't have trouble coming up with 10. Might as well start now.

I guess I was wrong: With one flip, at the very bottom of the list, it didn't change at all. FINAL LIST:

1. Schindler's List
2. Munich
3. Jaws
4. Catch Me If You can
5. Jurassic Park
6. Raiders of the Lost Ark
7. The Color Purple
8. Minority Report
9. Empire of the Sun
10. Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade

I am going more for favorite Spielberg movies... Schindler's List is a fantastic film, but it is a tough watch - which was his point.

1) Raiders of the Lost Ark
Classic movie all around. Great story. Great settings. Great acting. This is movie has so many things going for it.

2) Jurassic Park
This was my Star Wars, (I saw ESB in the theaters, but was a little young) in that it was the first movie in the theater where I left in total awe.

3) Saving Private Ryan
4) Jaws
5) ET
6) Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade
7) Minority Report
8) Empire of the Sun
9) Schindler's List
10) Bridge of Spies

that's my feeling as well.... I tend to skew towards "favorite" as opposed to critical consensus....

Tried to do a mix between "objective best" and "personal favorites," but past the top five, if any two movies were really close, I defaulted to the "personal favorite."

Pretty much this.

Schindler's List is not one of my favorite Spielberg films, but how can you deny that it's a classic film about the Holocaust?

...certainly an incredibly well-made historical drama that garnered the most critical acclaim of his career.
