Warner Bros Cobra (1986)

Cobra Blu-ray

Cobra Blu-ray Review

I didn't realize that Cobra was coming to Blu-Ray. This was a favorite of mine when I was younger. I personally think it's one of Sylvester Stallone's cooler films. Plus, I love the poster...and tagline: "Crime is a disease. Meet the cure."

Can't wait...

The last thing you want to do is overthink a Stallone movie but this one works on a couple levels...

Cheesy 80s action movie? Check.

Homage to late 60s, early 70s chase/showdown movies? Check, actually.

I distinctly remember sitting in the theater thinking 'this is either really bad or really good' and seriously not being able to decide.

I won't be paying $15 but I'll definitely be getting it at some point.

Maybe thirty years later I can decide whether I liked it or not

I loved this movie as a little kid. I thought the premise was awesome. I don't know if I would still like it in my twenties though.

Hmm

Completely over the top, ridiculous, obnoxious bad guy who gets "it" in the most obscene way possible at the end: CHECK!

I wouldn't recommend watching it now. I've caught it a couple times on Spike HD I think, and it's just laughably bad. It's almost like an unintentional spoof of action movies. I can only watch it up to the part where Sly hassles some guys parked in front of him (then leaves his car right there, as if he wouldn't come back out to find it in pieces!), comes into his apartment and cuts a slice of pizza with a pair of scissors, then gets his gun cleaning equipment that he keeps in his fridge in an egg container. I was a huge fan of Sly's back in the 80's, but this hasn't aged well.

Ummm...I have to respectfully beg to differ. I think this is cheesy in the best possible way. I've been a fan of cold pizza for breakfast ever since seeing this movie! LOL.
I also love the scene in the supermarket where Cobra takes the Coors light can and throws it to startle the robber...but not before popping the top and taking a sip. That's what I call bad ass.

That's Brigitte Nielsen.

I saw this on the big screen. Crap movie, actually managed to fall asleep during it and given the chairs at that place that was quite an accomplishment.

Yeah - I kind of agree. Its soooo bad , its good. Ill watch bits and pieces of it just for the comedy factor. Its so cliched and they go out of their way to make it as over the top as possible in every facet.

Still - for those who truly like it, you aare getting it on blu-ray. Enjoy.

Why not...I'll add it to my collection. I had the DVD in the past, but sold 2-3 boxes of all my DVD's when I first upgraded to Blu. Only Stallone movie I currently have in my collection is Over the Top, so I have ALOT of Sly movies to stack up on. Brian Thompson plays the main villian VERY well.

My wife is going to laugh her a$$ off when she finds out Cobra is on blu! I dvr'd this awhile back (never got around to picking it up on dvd), and when I was watching it, she laughed at how cheesy it was; she especially liked the line, "Go ahead, I don't shop here." I had to turn it off 'cos she couldn't sit through it, and I wasn't sure if I wanted to watch it with her around anyway. When I finally did watch it, it brought back some memories, but I don't think I could own it; WAY too cheesy for me. Then again, I love his car in this one, and I don't mind some good ol' fashion '80's style cheese every now and then.

My wife and I also had the same experience as well. Kind of funny that she never really understood the appeal of the "macho" action stars like Stallone, Schwarzenegger, Van Damme etc. (or maybe she was just too young). When I was watching Cobra on TV, she commented that Stallone's character never did any "detecting" (considering he was suppose to be a detective), how cheesy the "robot" MTV was, how Brigette Nielsen has turned out looking like a tranny etc.

Still getting the Bluray though!!
