Hi!
So I accidentally ordered two Season 1 Blu Rays from target. What I got was strange... The covers were nearly identical (one you can see slightly more of roses shoe), but the sides were slightly different with the Dr. Who logo placement and the back was very different. One was more zoomed in with the screenshots in the hexagons larger and the locations of the information/ formatting was different, though the info was the same. Both had made in Mexico stamped on it. So I am wondering, which one is the newer version and is it just the box art that is different or was there something that was fixed in one set and wrong in the other. Does anyone have any info about this? Thank you! |

One wasn't a DVD One wasn't a UK item by mistake Both has the same UPC? No French on the cover - wouldn't be the first Canadian item to end up in the wrong warehouse. I'm pretty sure it's gone through a couple pressing b/c I know it was OOS for long stretches more than once so some variation wouldn't be shocking. I don't remember there being a retailer exclusive. I guess I would open and check specifically the item that looks different that the database standard pic to make sure they aren BD-Rs (or even completely wrong discs) that someone opened/copied/resealed and returned. Is there anything different in the copyright/pressing dates? I wonder if they reprinted the covers after the S1-7 set -- I'm not sure the boxset had individual UPC on their covers, but if they had some leftover copies of that coverart is it possible they used those first then reprinted/changed thing slightly for the later pressing of the stanalone Last edited by hariseldon; 04-02-2021 at 04:26 AM. |

They are both USA Blu ray sets purchased from Target. In fact they were shipped together. Both have the same barcode/ upc. I didn't even think that one could be a fake..ugg...that makes the decision of which to keep/ open even more important. Ant here I was just worried that one pressing may have corrected something from a previous pressing. |

I am not sure if I am uploading pics wrong, but here are the image host site's links
https://ibb.co/MZH41Pr front (notice Rose' shoes) https://ibb.co/37bsG4Z Back https://ibb.co/Fh7N1V9 side view Note, in all three pictures the same set is on the right and left. Strange, huh? Any ideas? ![]() Last edited by daikon; 04-02-2021 at 04:44 AM. Reason: trying to get pics to show up vs links ...and failing. fixed front pic |

The first 2 pics are the same of the rear cover. Nothing I'm seeing on the back or spine is setting off alarm bells. |

Only real difference other than some minor layout stuff I can see is the "Distributed by Warner Bros" on the right one. My guess would be the left one was distributed by BBC themselves. I'm not sure which print run would have been first. If I had to guess blindly I'd say the Warner Bros is the newer one, but I imagine the disc content is exactly the same.
EDIT: Apparently Warner Bros USED TO distribute for BBC in North America but now BBC does it themselves. That's almost certainly the difference. So the BBC should be the newer one. Last edited by whoser37; 04-02-2021 at 04:46 AM. |

Exactly the same sounds good to me. I was worried that there was a glitch on an early print that got fixed on a subsequent one and did not want to get stuck with an issue. Thank you all for your help. If anyone knows conclusively, feel free to chime in! |

The one with (on the back) logos on the left and bbcamerica.com url is from the Gift Set 1-7 limited edition from way back in 2013... and also as sold separately through 2016.
See for yourself at Update: anyway, same verdict, keep the ones that does NOT mention Warner Home Video. Last edited by willbfree; 04-02-2021 at 04:58 AM. |

I got my S1 the first day it was available on BD in the big limited edition S1-7 box set (that came with the Sonic Screwdriver replica remote), and my S1 set matches the one on the right in your pic (aka the one that doesn’t have the “After an almost 20 year hiatus...etc.” paragraph).

Just to be certain, are you just saying that because it is newer, or is there another reason that you know about? I am leaning this way, but I am curious... THANK YOU! And thank you all for solving this mystery! ![]() ![]() |
