Default blue ray players and firmware updates in general

Ok is it me or does customer support for firmware upgrades gone down hill?
I spent 1/2 and hour on the phone and for the rep from LG to say well sorry there is no fix for this and a update will be released shortly thanks.... I asked when they couldn't give me a answer...

I bought the LG BD370 sometime around October of 2009 it's done 2 updates and has been fine.
I bought Avatar and now it says it needs a firmware update but there are none available.
Avatar eventually plays but this is really anoying it takes a long time for it to recognize the disk and then finally play.

I think Avatar will take longer than most BD's to load . I don't think it is A firmware problem .

It is because they almost filled a 50 GB disc with just the movie . I got mine yesterday & watched it & it took some time to load .

I'm sorry it is so slow but if the movie played , Then I don't think your player needs A firmware update .

There is just so much on the disc , that it took time to load it

I agree 100%, it's not your player.....it is certainly the disc. I have the BD590 which all of my blu-rays are loaded within seconds before I can get to the couch. Avatar took a bit longer. I think thats the first disc they tried to cram to much data on. No worries....

I'm just sayin'. I didn't know it was a problem with the load time until I came here. Guess I'm just a little bit spoiled by the load times on the PS3.

To the OP, I agree with the concensus of others that it's not the firmware if it played on your player.

A general question about Blu-ray players and firmware updates:

I know all have their problems, but in your opinion, what player has the worst updates, the most problems?

From what I've been reading it seems Sony players and PS3 are pretty good for updates.

in my opinion with working at best buy the most common players that i see being returned because they literally brick from updates and make it so they cant go online or just no longer turn on would have to be the samsung models and some of the insignia players do the same thing, which makes sense because if you compare some insignia models to older samsungs they use the same manual just has a different name on the front, so essentially is probably just an older samsung model.

Phew! I was hoping you wouldn't say LG (BD350C) as I literally walked in the door with one!

Avatar took longer to initially load than many other discs on my Sony BDP-S350. I wasn't worried though, as someone who got their BD copy of it early said it played fine on his BDP-S350.

To be sure, my player is network-connected, and firmware is current as well.

Played flawlessly on loading.

Good luck, OP!

I had a Samsung BD-3600 up till a few days ago. I have been having issues with new BD's, I have seen many complaints in different forums about Samsung players having problems so I changed out to a Oppo BD-83 the day before Avatar was released.

So far I have watched 5 movies that I had issues with on the Sammy and all played perfectly on the Oppo. It was a little more than I wanted to spend but seeing the results has justified the expense.

I've just got the UK version of Avatar - it took longer to load on my UK Panasonic BD80 (v2.3) than on my US Sony S360 (v007)

Just go to the support page here and download it. Copy it onto a CD or a Thumbdrive and you're good to go.

If you are pissed off waiting for your player to load just manage the time appropriately. Maybe walk around, or make your cup of coffee while waiting this way you will not get bored.
