They know the film's going to be poorly received (by the general public at least) and under perform at the cinema so they're desperate for folks to get those pre-orders in as a way of generating positive publicity.

Any chance of some lottery numbers all seeing one?

All it took was Palpertine's laugh at the end of the Rise of Skywalker trailer for millions of us fans to know it's going to be a disgraceful joke of a movie.

Look at the trend regarding Disney Star Wars grosses. Last Jedi took only ~65% of what Force Awakens managed and the backlash surrounding it helped kill Solo at the box office. The public (especially kids and teens) isn't particularly interested in Disney Star Wars and a significant millions of us fans won't be going to see episode 9 or buy it on home video. All these factors will effect the bottom line. Even with the inevitable promotional onslaught I'd be surprise if Rise of Skywalker breaks $1billion dollars, which for a main canon Star Wars film in 2020 will be pathetic.

The Skywalker Saga ended with episode 6. Unless of course Rey is a Skywalker (crikey who saw that coming, yawn)

I am disappointed with the new films, but not as much as I was with the prequel trilogy, which I thought was even worse. But regardless of how you or I feel, this film is absolutely going to break $1 billion worldwide. The final film of a trilogy always sees a bump from the second movie, and this is the final film in a trilogy of trilogies.

I honestly can't tell if you're joking or not. Not just with what I bolded, but the whole thing. Kids these days aren't interested in Star Wars? Haha, that's a good one.

I mean, do you even remember the theater releases of the prequel trilogy and how each one did? Phantom Menace had the most success while Revenge of the Sith did better than Attack of the Clones. I'm sure the same will apply here with this trilogy.

An absurd statement for which you have absolutely no evidence or data. And all the people who post endlessly that they're not going to see the movie will be the first ones on line. They care so little about the movie that they spend all their spare moments telling everyone how bad it's going to be. You know what I post about movies I have no interest in? Absolutely nothing.

TROS is opening Christmas week. It's major competition is Frozen 2 (which opens a month earlier), Aeronauts, a Jumanji sequel and Spies in Disguise. It's going to do quite fine. And if it doesn't, it doesn't. No one should really care except the profit participants.

You act like $1 billion is a terrible number. In 1966, the entire Warner Bros. studio (including TV, Film and Records) sold for just $32 million ($250 million in 2019 dollars). People have gotten spoiled by insane grosses of the biggest films. But only a few films will ever achieve those numbers. It certainly wouldn't be surprise if the 11th Star Wars film didn't achieve one of those miraculous grosses. That doesn't mean it would be a failure.

Are you willing to make a bet? Poorly received by the public, possibly. Underperforming at the box office? LOL. I will buy you a steelbook of your choosing if this does poorly at the box office and you can buy me a copy of this steelbook if the reverse is true.
