Default Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman 30th Anniversary complete rewatch thread

It premiered 30 years ago THIS MINUTE!

'Lois & Clark' at 30: How the Superman series led to a new era of superhero TV

Quote:
When Mark Pedowitz, chief executive of the CW, left the network last year, some fans of worlds where men wear masks and capes and women can fly saw it as the death of, well, Superman.

Under Pedowitz’s reign, the basic cable channel went from a harborer of flashy teen dramas like “Gossip Girl” to the headquarters of series based on comic book characters from the DC Universe — ones that happened to be owned by then-parent company Warner Bros. (In 2022, Nexstar acquired a controlling stake.) Shows like “Arrow,” “Supergirl,” “The Flash” and, the lone survivor, “Superman and Lois,” are all produced by partners Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter’s Berlanti Productions and all rely on a solid formula of stories about superheroes saving the world mixed with the office romances and familial dramas associated with nighttime soaps.

But 30 years ago, another TV show helped lay the groundwork for these types of superhero series: ABC’s “Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman,” which premiered Sept. 12, 1993. It saw comics’ infamous power couple as 20-something reporters working together to investigate stories for their esteemed newspaper, the Daily Planet, and take down corruption in the city of Metropolis. In reviewing the pilot, then-Times TV critic Howard Rosenberg described it as “relentlessly witty” and “a series that flies.”

I was in front of the TV every episode. I loved this and surprisingly, I don't have the DVDs. I thought about tracking them down, but I wonder if there's a chance WB would put them out on Blu-ray?

I and many others have been waiting years for this to happen but Warner Bros. just let the 30th anniversary pass by without an announcement so I'm not holding my breath.

I wish they would. They’re already in HD on Max. If Babylon 5 can get a complete series release so can this.

If it's not coming this year it won't come at all. The show's 30th anniversary and WB's 100th anniversary.

The show deserves a blu ray release. Still time, come on WB!

I can still clearly remember upperclassmen in high school watching reruns on the television in the cafeteria during breakfast when it aired on TBS.

Blu-ray just isn't getting the love it deserves, too many people are okay with just streaming or DVD.

I remembering loving this show when I was in primary school, but I have to be honest. I tried to rewatch season 1 last year and couldn’t get past episode 10…

I'm going to hold out and continue to watch them on Max. The DVDs are too expensive and I don't have any used stores near me to find "cheap" copies. I would hate to drop $80-100 for all four seasons and WB goes "Welp, here you go..."

I'm mad at myself for not getting them all these years, but priorities.

She was one of the dancers they added late into the run of The Love Boat.

Deserves a blu-ray release. I think it will come.

Saturday evenings in the UK waiting for it to air. I think it was 6pm each week. Fond memories.

Wish Lex Luthor had been in it more though, one of the best portrayals for me. And yes, Terri Hatcher

Teri Hatcher’s Lois Lane is too hot to just be on dvd. She should in in glorious 1080p.

Ah, the Good Ol' Days, when Terri Hatcher could blow up the Internet, just by posing with Superman's cape.

I hope so, too because I'm extremely tempted to accept an offer from an eBay seller for all four seasons.
