Default Papa Roach Commit's Career Killing Move..

http://www.fmqb.com/Article.asp?id=547451

Papa Roach, Known for billboard toping hits such as "Last Resort, Scars, and Forever" have left the high profile Geffen Records today, which houses other bands such as Angels And Airwaves, Puddle of Mudd, Weezer, and Garbage to name a few.

In case anyone doesnt know, Indie bands have such a low chance of selling records, or scoring any kind of hits on radio charts.. much less sell albums.

They have now signed to 10th entertainment, which has up and coming bands such as Sixx Am. Buckcherry, Motley crue also call the label home.

I met Jay Kolby years ago, and he was great to meet in person.

But this move to a new indie label is stupid.. talk about killing off a great band..

A new cd is due within the next few months. No reason as to why they left, but it may have to do with lack of promotion for their last album, with only one song, Forever, going all the way to #2 on the alternative charts, the other 4 singles, including Time is Running out and Reckless failed to spark any interest.

Bleh....they come from my area...a bit south.

They have gone downhill fast since their one and only good Cd...the first one.

I'll stick with my Deftones.

Default Papa Roach Going Indie Is Not A Career Killer.

I kind of enjoyed "Getting Away with Murder", and it had a number of strong and enjoyable singles, but I was supremely disappointed in "The Paramour Sessions". It was one of the worst CD's I've ever heard. One of those CD's that has 1 good song that becomes WWE's theme song.

I have rules about CD's, and 1 of them is that I am not impressed by a CD that only has one hit single, one good song. Case in point, Saliva, with their new CD, it might as well be called "PS3 Commercial". Because the only likable song on that CD is the one you hear on the PS3 commercial.

I think them going to a different label could only be better for them. It's not the label that matters anymore, really. It's the singer or band on the label. I'm not going to list successful indie bands, because a Google search will clearly spell it out, but I find much of what I hear on Independent labels to FAR exceed the pop/MTV music that is being manufactured on many major record labels.

Hopefully KORN follows their lead and just creates their own label so they could finally do something ORIGINAL. I am so tired of what they have become.

I could go on and on about it, but my point is, I am glad to hear Papa Roach is making a good decision. I'd rather them do something different than Top 40 Rock radio. Good rock music is obviously dying, so they need to move on to something better. When Daughtry and Nickelback is considering Rock music, this is when I move on to other forms of entertainment.

You know what the best part about the Saliva ps3 commercial is?

That song, ladies and gentlemen, FLOPPED at radio.. it didnt even chart in the top 50 at alternative.. and it was released over a year ago.. lol..

And I agree about korn too.. after they were dropped by Epic and moved to Virgin, their sound changed greatly.. remember Twisted Transistor? Good god..

I didn't know the Saliva song flopped on radio. I gave their CD a chance, after liking their previous stuff. It was terrible too

I think Korn is just unwilling to change with the times. It's like they just aren't relevant anymore. Jonathan Davis just has such a 1-note voice, all of the songs they do are bound to sound like the same thing over and over. I heard something interesting he did with Amy Lee, it was an Unplugged song, but I never looked into it much further. It actually interested me, because it was fresh and different from what I usually hear out of Davis.

I am glad I have Sirius radio, because I have an indie music channel all to myself. It's the greatest. If I don't want to listen to "LADIES AND GENTLEMAN", I don't ever have to. And no commercials either. I recommend it to anyone who is tired of FM radio.

It's great to discuss the current state of music with like-minded people though

Papa Roach? Korn? SALIVA???

Guys...mainstream labels and Billboard charts are N-O-T reliable sources of good modern rock music.

Fire up cdbaby.com in your web browser, type in whatever band you like to listen to, and search for similar sounding bands.

You'll be surprised that their might be tens of hundreds of bands out there who sound infinitely better than the crap you hear on the radio.

I know music is subjective, but if any one of you has a likening to a particular band, just type it here and I'll come up with a band that sound at least 100 times better.

Or your money back .

and plus...when you get old(like me) your musical tastes change...

I used to be all over Korn, Deftones, Slipknot, Mudvayne...that sort of stuff..

but, now I'm all about chill...give me some Jack Johnson, Ben Harper, Marley, Coldplay..and I am as happy as a clam.

Is 30 old to this crowd?!

If you make good music, the fans will follow. But I agree with glenn22... Papa Roach has had their 15 minutes. They need to be like Sugar Ray and go from hardcore to pop... do a remake of Christina's "Genie in a Bottle" or something. I'd buy that.

technically Sixx AM isn't a band, they're just the moniker used for Nikki Sixx to release a soundtrack to his book "The Heroin Diaries: A Year in the Life of a Shattered Rockstar". (A great read btw). But, Buckcherry has been getting a lot more pub lately than when they had released their self-titled, so it might be a good move. If the Crue ever released any new material that'd be nice, as long as it's not a throw away Simple Plan song like "If I Die Tomorrow". "Sick Love Song" was pretty badass. At any rate, I couldn't care less about Papa Roach (or Buckcherry for that matter).

I only brought up Korn and Saliva because I remember when they were fun, original, and enjoyable to listen to.

I know as well as anyone that "Radio Rock" isn't doing it anymore. Hence the mention of Daughtry and Nickelback. Which is why I'm glad I started listening to Indie Rock. At least there is still something left there.

Agreed, but it's not all about age. It also has to do with how much music you listen to. If you listen to it all day long, you'll get tired of genres, bands, people. Like Scott Stapp for instance. I think people got tired of Creed . But seriously, at this point, there aren't many "Mainstream" rock bands or singers that I still enjoy and find exciting.

I find myself listening to just about every other genre more often, like R&B, hence the Alicia Keys pic. It's sad to see something [Modern Rock] devolve so much from where it began.

breaking benjamin is a studio band, saw them live and was very disappointed.

sevendust is my all time fave band

never heard of revis. but i'll throw cold (broken up now) out there.

red is one of my newer fave bands.

and for a more mellow rock, you can't beat collective soul

Yeah they're signed...one of the few good ones, though IMO .

Sorry you didn't like them...I haven't seen them yet live yet (no west coast dates ), but everybody I spoke to who has seen them tell me that they're one of the best live acts out there, sounding better than the CD.

To each his own .

Sevendust is really something else...ESPECIALLY live

Listen to some of Revis's songs HERE

They sound a little mainstream-ish, but the riffs, hooks and vocals are very powerful. Worth a listen .

i meant they were a studio band, meaning they only sound good in the studio. but you're right, to each their own. they sure had a big crowd, but i thought they sounded worse. oh well

but yeah, i've seen sevendust nearly a dozen times, their shows are just so great.

i'll check out that band

While I didn't particularly like their last CD -Phobia, I enjoyed "We Are Not Alone". I have not seen them perform live, but have heard them on several live shows, and the guy has a really good rock voice. He's good with cover songs. I appreciate their work, and hope they can make a comeback to where they were back then.

Papa Roach and great band in the same sentence seems like an oxymoron to me.

That band sucks big time along with many of their contemporaries like Linkin Park and Korn and the likes.

Papa Roach and Linkin Park had a some okay songs. "Faint" by Linkin Park is one of my all time favorite songs as for the rest of the their stuff....eh. IMO, the band that's the most overexposed is Nickelback. I run a Subway and we're required to have "Subway Satalite Radio" and every fifth song is a Nickelback song.
