There can only be one
Robocop vs. Terminator vs. Blade Runner Now that Hollywood is plundering the scifi classics. Which director is the king of scifi (although Cameron has proclaim himself king, once upon time)? |

I vote for Ridley Scott, just on the strength of Alien and Blade Runner. Someone to Watch Over Me is an underrated film as well.
All three of these directors have films that range from perfection (Alien, Blade Runner, Aliens, Robocop) to noble near-misses (Legend, The Abyss, Starship Troopers) to outright misses (Hannibal, Avatar, Hollow Man). When they hit the mark, though, they really hit the mark. |

Verhoeven isn't even in the running for me, it's between Cameron and Scott, which are two of my favourites.
Now, Cameron is probably the most technically visionary director I know of when it comes to pushing the boundaries of cinema, but Scott is just an overall better storyteller, and can master almost any genre he takes on. I'd rate T2 higher than anything Scott has done, but Blade Runner is close, and Alien, Gladiator, Prometheus, Black Hawk Down, Thelma and Louise etc ultimately seals the deal. Scott all the way! |

I like Verhoeven and Cameron equally, but for completely different reasons. Verhoeven is a provocateur who made some great European art house films and then moved on to make some of the most subversive Hollywood blockbusters possible. Cameron is one of the most visionary directors working, concerned with creating intricate universes and nobody with the possible exception of Spielberg (who should be in the poll instead of Verhoeven) comes close when it comes to directing action.
Scott has made two films (wanna guess ?) I love more than almost anything by Verhoeven and Cameron, but he made them early in his career. Since then he's made a handful of okayish films and a lot of mediocre to bad ones, all of which I find far less interesting then even Cameron or Verhoeven's worst films. He has become a journeyman director with no compelling unifying vision like the other two. Last edited by Todd Tomorrow; 01-12-2014 at 11:45 AM. |

I get the most enjoyment from Verhoeven’s movies.
This does not mean they are quality movies, but they sure leave an impression and are usually talked about in the years after (or was it “two weeks” ![]() Too bad it all ended 20 years ago. Over half of Ridley’s movies aren’t even good in my opinion. (Usually not my genre) |

Just basing my vote on the amount of films I love.
Cameron: The Terminator, Judgement Day, Aliens. Scott: Blade Runner, Alien. Verhoeven: RoboCop, Basic Instinct, Total Recall. Tie between Cameron and Verhoeven. But Verhoeven aged better for me. |
