Skyfire (2019) [No 3D Blu-ray]

In the interest of documentation I figured I'd make a thread for this. I'm a sucker for disaster movies so after seeing some clips on YouTube and the recent review of the US release on this site, I decided to buy Skyfire, a Chinese volcano movie. I looked up the original Chinese posters and such that I could find and didn't see any mention of 3D.

Lo and behold I watched the movie and the end credits confirmed it was in fact shown in 3D in China. According to said credits it was a conversion by Southbay Motion Picture Technologies, a Chinese company that's also done conversion work for Hollywood features including the entire conversion for Tomb Raider, which was fairly shallow but technically solid. Definitely would have loved to see how this looked in 3D.

For whatever it's worth I didn't feel like I was missing anything watching the movie, unaware it ever was stereoscopic, and framing-wise I don't think the filmmakers were paying any special attention to making it a "3D movie." Still a shame.

This site at least has no listings for a 3D release anywhere in the world, and a cursory Google search for the Chinese title and "3D" turned up nothing.

It has been mentioned in a couple of other threads, unfortunately it was not released on 3D Blu-ray anywhere in the world.

Regardless, I doubt that there will ever be a 3D Blu-ray.

Shame because this would of been fantastic in 3D however picked it up for £7 and it's been one of my best blind buys. Still worth picking up even in 2D.

Just avoid the Australian release. A bloody dub.
