Default Wiener-Dog: Todd Solondz semi-Sequel to DOLLHOUSE w/ Greta Gerwig

A semi-sequel to his breakthrough dark comedy WELCOME TO THE DOLLHOUSE is in in the works, reprising that film's main character (but without its original star).

Somewhat strange news given that PALINDROMES also references DOLLHOUSE
[Show spoiler](it used Dawn Wiener's funeral as its point of departure)
... but Solondz has become a director that not only creates a universe of characters but also toys with them and reconfigures them, so I guess anything goes.

Almost twenty years after making his breakthrough as a filmmaker with Welcome to the Dollhouse, Todd Solondz is making a sequel.

Sort of.

Solondz is putting together a cast for Wiener-Dog, an ensemble indie that is tied together thematically by a dachshund. But one of the stories will also center on Dawn Wiener, the character mercilessly teased as "Weiner Dog" in the 1995 cult hit.

Indie starlings Julie Deply and Greta Gerwig are in discussions to star in the movie, which Solondz had been developing quietly under the radar but now has a new leash on life: Megan Ellison and her Annapurna production shingle have come on board to produce and finance with Christine Vachon and her banner Killer Films also on board to produce.

The script tells several stories featuring people who find their life inspired or changed by one particular dachshund, who seems to be spreading comfort and joy.

It's early days in the casting process and it’s unclear the nature of Delpy's character, but if everything comes together, Gerwig would play the adult Dawn Wiener in one of the storylines.

Heather Matarazzo originally starred as an 11-and-a-half-year-old who is wildly unpopular, unattractive and unliked by even her own family and just tried to survive life in the seventh grade. However, the actress is not returning for the new movie.

Dollhouse was part of the great wave of indie films that swept 1990s cinema. Solondz won the Sundance Film Festival’s grand jury prize after the movie’s Sundance debut. Matarazzo won a Indie Spirit Award for her performance while Solondz was nominated for best director and the film for best feature.

I'd be game with Gerwig in the role. Love her.

Apparently this is coming to film festivals soon and the movie is actually about a wiener dog . which is awesome.
Cast includes
Denny devito
Greta gerwig
Ellen burstyn
Julie delpy
Keiran Culkin
Zosia Mamet

It actually sounds like a family film

I'd be more excited if it was still Heather Matarazzo as Dawn.

Only seen Happiness from Solondz, so obviously I need to catch up. But that film is also sorts of amazing, and I hope this is pretty awesome.

Default The film tells a few stories

Todd Solondz has without a doubt collected an altogether Solondz-esque cast for his next film "Wiener-Dog." As already reported, Julie Delpy and Greta Gerwig will lead an outfit that now includes Kieran Culkin, Danny DeVito, Brie Larson, Ellen Burstyn, Zosia Mamet and writer Tracy Letts. The film tells a few stories rotating around one specific dachshund who, as indicated by Annapurna Pictures, "is by all accounts spreading comfort and bliss." Let it be realized that in Solondz's reality unusual yet adorable pessimists, from "Satisfaction" to "Narrating" and most as of late "Dim Horse," all is never what it appears. If anyone need a complete review please click here the expert will help you.

What are the odds that 2 films with Wiener in it are coming out at the same time.

Solondz has never reached the heights of his first 2 films, but he is always worth a look so I am interested in seeing this.

Speak for yourself. I much prefer Life During Wartime to Happiness. Storytelling is very solid too.

It's actually one of those rare anthology movies that works better as whole instead of parts. The first two stories are the least funny (I think Dawn Wiener's part is actual the weakest of the whole film) but once DeVito comes in, it starts coming together far more and his and Ellen Burstyn's stories are the strongest and offer bigger laughs, although the first two stories have more uncomfortable moments. Only seen Welcome to the Dollhouse and Happiness out of Solondz filmography and both of them are far stronger than this, but this has honestly stuck a little but with me after walking out, considering a part of me was a bit disappointed, I think that speaks a bit towards it's strength.

I also think the final shot is beautifully bleak and devastating in that typical harsh way that runs through his films.

Loved it. Saw it at a free preview screening a few months ago with Solondz doing Q&A after. Liked the Dawn bit the most, but the rest is great. It's sitting comfortably in my top 10 of the year for now.

I watched this recently on Amazon Prime Video. It was good. Funny in parts, sad in others, the definition of a black comedy. However, the story felt a little disjointed. And, the intermission was unnecessary. But, overall, I liked it.

This movie, like Ned Rifle, is a film I really want to see, but will probably never get around to.

Even if a movie is part of a "loose series", I can't bring myself to watch things out of order. And I know I'll probably never get around to seeing the first films of either series.

Welcome to the Dollhouse is amazing. And somewhat necessary to enjoy her story in Wiener-Dog.

Henry Fool, on the other hand, is boring as sin. It's sequels, however, are quite good. Fay Grim is very solid, and Ned Rifle was my favorite film of 2015.

Ugh! I got around to this movie too late, and getting it on Blu is a pain! I suppose this is a case where streaming it is the most practical option (for now).

I thought this movie was surprisingly good. It has all of the dark humour and snark that Solondz is known for. Stylistically, it's most similar to "Palindromes" as it is essentially a series of vignettes, all tied around the dog passing between owners. The connection to "Dollhouse" is pretty cool, even if he wasn't able to get the original cast back in. I do think watching "Dollhouse" beforehand is necessary to really understand that part of the film and the relationship between Dawn and Brandon.
