Alright i will do this. But do we have to sign up every day? They said a new winner every day for both formats.
So do we sign up once, or is it every day?

I think you sign up, and then out of that pool of people they choose a winner every day. I don't think you need to sign up EVERY day. Amazon is goofy though, did ANYONE here win anything with those giveaway sales last year?

I'm in CA and dont pay tax when I order from Amazon. God knows I've given them alot of money since I went Blu. Since they dont charge tax in CA (not sure if they do in other states) I dont think taxes would have to be paid if you were to win in a state where Amazon does not charge sales tax.

Even though Id love to win this as with most other people, I think it would be cool to hear that one of the members here won.

I'm not talking about sales tax here.

Prizes and awards

Subject to certain exceptions, the cash value of prizes or awards won in a drawing, quiz show program, beauty contest, or other event, must be included on the tax return as taxable income.

Taxpayers must also report the fair market value of merchandise or products won as a prize or award, as taxable income.

For example, both a $500 cash prize and the fair market value of a new range won in a baking contest must be reported as other income on Form 1040, Line 21.

It wouldn't be sales tax. I'm pretty sure this falls under luxury tax in the US, which is a tax you pay on stuff like lottery winnings, contests, sweepstakes, etc. It's pretty high... like 24%... but like all taxes, there's ways around them or ways to decrease them (legally) that doesn't hurt so bad.

Since Amazon can't make you pay them, you'd be required to put them on your personal tax filing next year (or quarter, if you pay quarterly), and Amazon would simply 1099 you. But the chances of someone getting audited for $3k is slim to none.
