...says the person who started a poll asking if people want separate 2.39 and 1.90 versions of Skyfall.

I love what they did with Dragon Tattoo, it's a very classy package from start to finish and the alternate disc art is a wonderfully geeky touch, as is the 'pirated' DVD.

And with all the nice combinations, in France, we have the awful Tree + Security camera...

What is wrong with having the option of getting both aspect ratios, especially if they're advertised?

On the other hand, printing disc art variations makes little business sense, especially since they weren't advertised as such (for example, a sticker on the package that says, "Set 1 of 3! Collect all 3!").

Do you have a stake in their business? Why does it bother you so much?

This. Fincher's disc producer David Prior loves his easter eggs, and this time that was extended to the discs themselves. The variable art is simply a really nice touch for fans to seek out, and not having it advertised means that, sometimes, things aren't all about the dollar dollar bill y'all.

You contradicted yourself. If you have to buy several copies of this movie to get the disc art that you want, then it's all about the money.

No, my point was that it's not about the dough for the studio because they didn't advertise those aspects of the packaging, even though it would've cost them x amount more cash to press the different versions, so it's purely fan demand that's driven sales for the disc art - and what we do with our cash as grown adults is entirely up to us. Sony didn't produce these with the intent of fleecing people - edit: it's not like there's different video content or they're retailer exclusives - it's simply a nerdy easter egg so it's not worth getting het up about.

I didn't even know about this but certainly wouldn't go buy another copy cuz I didn't like the disc art. I may think "I wish I got set b not c", but that would be it. It's even less important than ugly cover art, although everything is important to some I guess.

What would you call this format of packaging? It's not an Amaray, Digibook, Slipcover, Slipbox or SteelBook...what is it?

Thanx!

I had no idea this was even a thing.

From the OP pics, I would say #2 (top right) is the best. One of these days, I'll buy the movie, completely forget this was ever a thing, and be none the wiser. Or, I'll remember this was a thing, and just not care.
