Default NBC's "Chicago Fire" (Season 4)

I searched and couldn't find a thread.

When it debuted last fall I wasn't sure how I would like it as I have never been a fan of Law & Order and this from its creator Dick Wolf.

This show has become one of my favorite shows on TV right now. Although it seems they can't give the characters a break as it seems its one bad thing after another happening where it be on the job or personal.

So what do others think of the show? It reminds me a lot of another NBC show Third Watch that aired in the early 2000's.

Surprised that I saw this thread with no posts.

A solid show that my fiance and I enjoy watching. This coming week's episode looks pretty intense.

So what did everyone (at least those of us watching) think about the mid-season finale?

Husband loves this show. I keep it recorded for him while he is out on the road and he gets a marathon when he comes home.

I am dissatisfied . Show is starting to become just too much drama and not much fun. Chicago PD is a better show. Both shows need more desk Sergeant.

I'm favoring CPD these days, but that says more about CPD's positives than about CF's negatives.

In at least one respect, I'm enjoying CF more than I had before. One of the reasons I started watching it in the first place was because I like David Eigenberg (Herrmann), and it seems like he's been getting more screen time lately than he had been before.

Amy Morton is a gem. She's become my favorite character on CPD, and I get a smile on my face when I see her name come up in the guest credits on CF. Hell, I even like it when her name comes up in the guest credits on Blue Bloods (she's an occasionally recurring character on that show).

I hope she gets upgraded to a regular next season.

There was nothing new for me to watch so I originally started watching Chicago P.D. It just felt more like a grittier version of Blue Bloods, which is another great series. After watching through Chicago P.D., it took me some time to get around to watching Chicago Fire. Like many other fans, I grew up watching the original 1970's series, Emergency.

When I finally got around to watching Chicago Fire, I don't know, the series just feels too much like a soap opera than it does a series about Chicago's fire department services. Then, it started to jump the shark for me when the series started digging too deep into politics with Lieutenant Casey running for Alderman, the drama with Chief Pidgen and Chief Patterson not to mention the fact that most of the characters on the show are sleeping with one another and let's not forget the tired-old cliche of having one of your characters accused of murder, arrested, etc. Kind feels more like an episode of General Hospital than it does a drama about a fire department.

While the show has grown on me, you would also think that NBC would be competent enough to keep its actors on the show without having the need to swap characters like Shay and Chilli out of the series. I actually enjoyed those two characters. Shay seemed real buddy-buddy with Severide and Chilli was actually funny. Lauren German is pretty cool in "Lucifer". I also thought it was too cliche that the writers enjoy tossing their actors into the deep end. First, it was Severide with his drug addiction and then with his drinking addiction after Shay died in that fire explosion. Then, they threw Chilli into those waters and gave her a drinking problem after the death of her sister, Jellybean.

I'm hoping the writing gets better with the fifth season.

United Kingdom Chicago Fire season 4 episodes "Let It Burn" and "A Taste of Panama City"

[Show spoiler]Starting off with the first two episodes of last season (which started here in early June). The season premiere "Let It Burn" and the following episode "A Taste of Panama City" continued and concluded the Casey/Nesbitt storyline respectively. Yes, it felt a bit too easy how the storyline with the strip club was resolved, but it was still entertaining, especially in the second episode. My only other criticism was that I wished the storyline could have run into more episodes (another couple of episodes maybe).

Kelly Severide being demoted, based on what had happened previously with the various firefighters and paramedics leaving Firehouse 51 I could kind of see, although it still felt a bit extreme, the action taken against him.

A storyline started in this episode, which I thought was one of the highlights in the season premiere, was the fire at the drugs den which Firehouse 51 were called out to. Based on hindsight, I hope the show goes back to this fire and what (and who) caused it, in the episodes "When Tortoises Fly" and "Short and Fat".

The drugs den fire callout aside, Brett and Chili were called out to an area in the city where a young, pregnant woman was in trouble. Thought the scene in the ambulance on the way to the hospital was tense. There was a scene towards the end of the episode, where Brett, Chili and Dr. Will Halstead were at (I assume) Chicago Med looking at the newborn baby.

One of the best things about the start of the fourth season, has been the promising new character Jimmy Borelli (played by Steven R. McQueen).

By the way, it looks like the Season 4 blu-ray is up for pre-order at AmazonUK.

They're apparently still not planning any CPD or CMed blu-rays.

jayembee, that's probably due to the fact that Chicago PD and Chicago Med are still relatively new shows. Chicago Fire got the treatment, mostly due to it being the original series that jump-started this whole "Chicago TV Universe" concept.

Doubtful. Universal (UK) released Fire on blu-ray right from the git-go. When they released S2 on blu-ray, they didn't likewise release P.D. S1 (P.D. is only a year behind Fire). The year after that, they released Fire S3 on blu without a corresponding release on P.D. S2.

They also haven't released blu-rays of L&O:SVU.

What they have done, however (thanking the Lord for small favors), is include any P.D. and L&O:SVU crossover episodes in the Fire releases.

I suspect that they just think that Fire is a better candidate for blu-ray release because it's visually more striking what with the firefighting scenes.

jayembee, everyone knows that television shows are released in Europe and Asia far before they are released in the United States. This is the way it has always been, going back as far as the mid-1980's. Some TV shows are also released in Europe and never released in the United States, despite the fact that they were American shows.

Hell, Star Trek TNG was being released in Europe on home video while the show was still being broadcast as first run episodes long before it was available on home video in the United States.

Space Rangers was another TV show that was released on home video in Europe but had never been released on home video in the United States until most recently, when ti was released as a 2 disk set.

Yes, I know all that. My point isn't that Chicago Fire is being released in the UK and not in the US. My point is that Chicago Fire is continuing to be released on Blu-ray in the UK while its sibling shows are still only being released on DVD. Why is that so hard to grasp?

Do we really need a synopsis of every show a year later after it has debuted?

Watching my first ever episode of this, season 5 episode 17 (the earliest on Hulu) and I have to ask... is this show supposed to be cheesy as hell? Like is that the tone? Is it a tongue and cheek version of procedurals?

This thread has been dead for awhile, but talking about the show, is anyone feeling sorry for the Severide character?

Man, that character has gone through pure misery. Latest being with Anna ultimately dying from the cancer after he saved her life and they became a couple.

I hope next season they write something to let the character experience some happiness.
