Tanya Tucker and Hal Ketchum are who I have been a fan of the longest out of who my favorites are, since 1991 for both, and I still love them. My newest favorite is country band Sawyer Brown.

God bless you and all of my favorites who are still here always!!!

Holly

P.S. Billy Joe Royal and Steve Sanders of the Oak Ridge Boys are my favorites out of those who are no longer here, I love them both SO very much!!!

Tarja's currently my favorite singer.

In terms of musicians who play instruments and such, I find myself admiring Klayton (of Celldweller) the most these days.

When I was a kid...probably Weird Al Yankovic. Still a fan, but I think I like his newer albums (and his newer look) better than from the past.

What got me into music in the '70's was KISS. For many years that was most of what I listened to. Then the '80's' came along and I loved the "hair metal" bands but I also listened to a ton of other stuff. It's impossible for me to pick a favorite these days because I listen to such a variety. Some favorites that I'll always go back to. Tori Amos, Trans-Siberian Orchestra, AC/DC, George Thorogood and Cyndi Lauper to name a few.

It's gotta be a tossup between Nightwish, Disturbed, and Evanescence.

When I was a kid and teen in the 80's and 90's I listened to mostly metal like Iron Maiden, Metallica, Slayer and hard rock/glam like Gun N Roses and Motley Crue. When I was 18 I discovered Bob Dylan and he has been my favorite artist since. I still listen to those metal bands but Dylan opened my eyes to all kinds of music.

KISS was my first love when it came to music. They will always have a special place in my heart for that reason and I still listen to them from time to time.

These days the bands I listen to the most are Rush, Iron Maiden, Dream Theater, and I'm still spinning the latest Judas Priest album "Firepower" quite a bit.

In terms of newer/younger bands that I'm liking, I'm really digging Ghost and The Struts.

I've been a fan of Michael Jackson since I was eight, and that hasn't changed very much.

So what would your favorite album/song?

I've not listened much other than Off The Wall, Bad and Thriller. I do have the new Scream glow in the dark vinyl with a selection of his songs.

It's always changing, especially when I was a kid. At one point it was Milli Vanilli.

This decade: Greg Dulli's stuff (The Afghan Whigs & The Twilight Singers)

For me it's without a doubt Human Nature and Man In the Mirror. Those two songs are as good as it gets IMO.

When I was little it was the Monkees then the Beatles. Then I found KISS

Now I listen to a lot of stuff. I steer mostly to the harder stuff ( punk/thrash / metal ) but listen to many things.

I loved movies more than music in my early adolescence . I dug playing a mix of my mum's and dad's records, which meant listening The Beatles, Motown, Gerry Rafferty, Dylan and Cohen (both long acquired tastes, can't really blame anyone for being put off), Cat Stevens (but couldn't abide most of my dad's traditional and modern folksy stuff).

My older sister was into ABBA then Madonna (but went right off her after Like A Prayer) and Prince as well as The Jesus And Mary Chain and a few other Scottish bands, so I was happy to get copies of those records (but NEVER Wet, Wet, Wet! I must add).

The one band that has stuck constantly as almost an obsession has been The Beach Boys and Brian Wilson's music. First time I heard I Get Around on an old LP I swore it was new music and not almost twenty years old. I've always had that perception of the music being timeless although I of course recognise that it is clearly of a certain time and place too. But the quality of the sounds at least have always stood up to anything you might care to mention, in my opinion.

Later on at high school and college (after a dalliance with metal, just Megadeth, Slayer and Metallica really, and only for about 6 months), I got into some more contemporary bands. Supergrass, Stereolab, then Super Furry Animals always stood head and shoulders above all other indie/rock/pop acts since the mid '90s. And likely always will.

Rave/Techno/Acid/Club/whatever and all the things that go with it, musically and socially, set the conditions for getting into all sorts of different things old and new. Kraftwerk are a pillar of electronic music that's hard to ignore.

So who knows what I like now. Lots of stuff. Still like the old stuff though but don't feel like new stuff has to compete with it for affection. And that's important.

This song could probably sum it up better than I can.

"Give me Love, give me Can, give meMeatloaf
Give me Rush, give me Marquee Moon
Michael Ball, or The Fall
I could listen to them all
In the twilight or the afternoon
Irk the purists
Irk the purists
Irk the purists
It’s a right good laugh
Irk the purists
Irk the purists
Irk the purists at the back
Hall & Oates, random Goth, Miles Davis
Patti Smith, Simply Red, Sly Stone
Be they false or for real, I don’t care and nor does Neil
So long as we can hear their song
Irk the purists
Irk the purists
it could well be an Olympic sport
Irk the purists
Irk the purists
If you’ve never, then you ought
Husker Du-Du-Du
Captain Beefheart, ELO
Chris de Burgh
Sun Ra
Del Amitri
John Coltrane

Irk the purists
Irk the purists
Come on now boy, you know it feels so right
Irk the purists
Irk the purists
Irk the purists tonight

As I kid I enjoyed Elvis, then in my teens I started listening to a lot of Metallica and Nirvana. Now I just enjoy everything new and old across many genres.
