I assume it will be out in 2019 probably 1-2 months before Top Gun: Maverick comes out. I'm hoping for a nice $ 20 price point the same a Braveheart,Gladiator, Saving Private Ryan and the Mission Impossible series.

I am fine with the 3d master in 4k with HDR.

But they will never use the 3D master, which has the wrong color timing and object digitally moved around in frame to make the 3D work better (just like Jurassic Park). They could use the SCAN for the 3D master though.

2D version using the new transfer (done on 6K Arriscan) is already out there in HDTV land, and on streaming too I think? That's what he means, not the literal converted 3D master.

I figured, but that's not what he said. He said 3D master, which is why language matters.

The disc will most likely feature Dolby Vision most if not all Paramount discs have had Dolby Vision

I can confirm that he was. Worked with him once. He was actually excited about the 3D. Haven't seen it that way myself (movie doesnt do it for me, then or now) so I don't know if the enthusiasm was justified.

This is one of the times I prefer the Open Matte version over the 2.40:1 version, everything just looks so tight in the frame and cropped and to me annoying to watch, especially the flying sequences. Open Matte fixes almost all of that without cropping of the sides. The flying sequences alone look even better in the full screen version where the matte is opened even more to almost IMAX proportions although there is slight cropping at the sides and in the remainder of the film to much headroom. Now if we could get the Open Matte as an alternative version on a second disc in 4k I would be all in. Till then I,ll stick with my HD Open Matte new master copy I obtained.

We had to live with 2.00:1 for way too long.

After searching, I really surprised to see that Top Gun doesn't appear to show up in and wishes for new 4K release. I did find one comment (not in Blu-ray Forum) about the Steelbook being the best release until the 4K comes out, but nothing else.

Any thoughts on this?

While cinematically, it's likely an error, in reality, it's actually realistic. Basically, even though they have the names on the side of the jet, in reality, many if not any of the pilot/WSO(RIO) in the squadron can use any fighter in that squadron, because while a set of pilots get assigned the mission, several of the aircraft are likely down for maintenance, whether because they're broke or more commonly, due to mandated inspections.

About the only dedicated fighters at any one time are maybe the CAG/Deputy CAG of the Carrier Air Group.

The Flyby denied because the goddamn Pattern was Full! Good grief what a near perfect film for a 10 year old boy to find and watch and love for a lifetime...
