I'm going with Die Another Day. A View to a Kill has the better theme song, but that's about it. The first 45 minutes or so of DAD are pretty terrific and the rest of it just goes bonkers, but I just role with it. AVTAK just feels a bit tired and Moore really looks a bit too old by this point. It feels like a Bond Matlock episode. Walken is fun though.

DIE ANOTHER DAY and it's not even close. Like MOONRAKER, this gets a lot of hate for its absurdities, and just like that much maligned Bond entry it's great fun. That sword fight between Bond and Graves is terrific and I actually like that atmospheric ice palace that apparently drives most Bond fans up the wall...and I'm highly amused by the fact that even in a brief cameo, Madonna is thoroughly incapable of coming across as even remotely human.
Bonus points for Rosamund Pike's performance feeling like it's her audition for GONE GIRL. And in the end, Tanya Roberts isn't in this movie so it's the clear winner... ![]() Last edited by MJD64; 03-26-2020 at 12:35 PM. |

But AVTAK is even better than that! Christopher Walken being almost as great as Nick from The Deer Hunter. Moore at his best, the gadgets, the locations, Patrick Macnee, Tanya Roberts being a great bond girl, San Francisco chase scene, Duran Duran and John Barry's score, Grace Jones, parachuting from the Eiffel tower, the whole underground part (near the ending), the blimp and the bridge, the opening ski chase (And yes even with the beach boys). if i have to search really deep my only problem is how Patrick Macnee is treated as an idiot, and is killed off in an unsatisfying way. |

A View To A Kill is terrible, but it's a masterpiece compared to Die Another Day.

A View To A Kill--- John Barry's musical score, Duran Duran's title song, Christopher Walken's fun performance, and the spectacular finale on the Golden Gate Bridge beat anything that Die Another Day offers....

I went with A View to a Kill, mostly out of the nostalgia I have for 80s Bond.
Die Anther Day is great until Halle Berry shows up and stinks out the place. This is a tough one because my feelings about both films wildly vary depending on what mood I'm in. Ask me this again in six months and I may have chosen the opposite. |

Die Another Day in this match-up. View is awful (nothing against Walken).
How For Your Eyes Only beat out the You Only Live Twice/Spectre match-up in the previous bracket is beyond me. Who seeded these brackets anyways? The Goldfinger/From Russia With Love first round match-up is brutal. Last edited by Lordy; 03-26-2020 at 05:27 PM. |

Neither of these films is all that great to be honest.
Die Another Day does have some cool production design including the cars, plus Rosamund Pike and the easter egg references to the first 19 Bond films are fun, but there are so many strikes against it. The worst, for me, is Bond escaping from the hospital ship in Hong Kong by willfully flatlining his heart... that's some Derek Flint shit right there. While my head acknowledges that AVTAK is a pretty terrible film too, I have huge nostalgia towards it as it was the first Bond film I saw on the big screen. Walken makes a great villain and as dated as it is now, the Duran Duran song is still one of the best themes. Plus, anything with Brosnan as Bond is pretty much a loser unless it's up against another Brosnan. |

Wow! This one is a hard decision. Both movies have some severe issues.
Die Another Day - was pretty decent up until they brought Bond back into MI6. Then the film goes downhill fast (although the sword fight with Pike and the car stunts on the ice were good). Halle Berry is terrible as a Bond girl though and the theme song is beyond terrible. The villains were also very bland and unmemorable (beyond the really good sword fight in the club). A View to a Kill - the theme song is one of the best of the series! I also love the villains (Walken and Jones are fantastic in their roles). The two main downsides for me are the fact that Moore is way too old for the role at this point (in fact you can tell when the stunt men took over for him) and as beautiful at Tanya Roberts is...her character just needed to go away! They tried to make her a more progressive character, but then drop it a scene later (JAAAAAMES!). I guess in the end, the villains win this one for A View to a Kill |
