I just read that this demo was originally going to be unveiled at GDC AND it was going to be playable!

I just got a chance to watch it on my 4k TV. Pretty damn impressive.

DF did a video.

The actual demo is 2160/30.

They keep saying 1440 in their video. lol

Where did you get that from?

I watched the video first released but they do another? Mavrick posted as well that the resolution is "dynamic" but in practice it means a 1440p/30fpa presentation for the majority of the time.

YouTube stats.

When switching from 720 to 2160, if the video was 1440/30, the stats would clearly show that in real time instead of 2160/30.

I don't quite know the technical in and out of YouTube and so on, but if they possibly had the resolution shifting during the presentation but kept the recording at 2160p, that could explain why it doesn't shift on YouTube but it would probably if you had a PS5 directly hooked up and tested. That's my assumption at the very least on how it is working out because i think it happens with other YouTube videos too. They capture at a set resolution rather than follow the dynamic resolution you would probably experience in person.

I think that just means that the video itself is uploaded on 4k, not necessarily the content in the video

Looks like Tomb Raider in many ways for a tech demo. As far as the graphics and effects, very nice.

Okay, small thing and i don't know if it's just me, but when he goes "And as you can see, if we put the triangle on, it looks like noise but it isn't" part, did anybody else feel the demo did look like in motion it had "noise"?

It just didn't look "clean" if that makes sense. Like i could see the "noise" they were talking about due to all those triangles being used the way they were to render the image. I(ve watched it a few times now and kinda get the same thing. It's almost a bit like if there's a "filter" applied y'know.

Stats show on official upload,

Viewport/frames 3840x2160 (That basically means your TVs max output)
Current/Optimal Res 3840x2160@30 (That is real time output & frames)

It’s possible to have 3840x2160 viewport & Current/Optimal Res at 1080p on other videos to give ya examples.

I see videos that claim 4K all the time.

When I check the stats, a lot of times, the Current/Optimal Res is below 4K & the video is misleading.

Those stats come in handy. I don’t have access to 3840x2160@60 content. I found a video on YouTube finally that did have Forza running at that level & was happy because my TV accepted the signal meaning my TV can accept 4K/60 output.

I was thinking the same thing when I saw it. Except for the flying part.

It basically took elements of Uncharted, Horizon and Spider-Man and merged it in to one.

The fact this is playable on a PS5 and wasn't just an in engine cutscene like all the Xbox stuff was what impressed me most.

Really don't know why MS wouldn't show any gameplay.

I think it's because to some degree they don't want to maybe leave current gen feeling in the cold just yet and are saving reveals. That 2 year window they set all but guarantees they've not got any games that could probably do the sorta things on show in that demo without some trickery.

Guess it was just me then. I know games have filters in them at times you can turn on or off. Warzone has one for film grain for example. Well, guess it just appeared to my eye like that on my TV. Wondered if anybody else had it happen too.

Ok, but when games use dynamic resolution your PS still outputs the image at the size you chose in settings. If it drops to 1440p the displayed output image is still 2160p, so wouldn't the YouTube stats continue to reflect that? If you played a native 1080p game and your Pro was set to 4K, wouldn't the output frame still be 4K?

And that is ultimately all that matters! That's why I say, stop being so benchmark obsessed! Trust your eyes! If it looks good, then it IS good!

If that's true, it makes me wonder how DF etc. measure dynamic resolution and when it drops and increases. So in terms of a YouTube video, i believe the capture is made at 2160p and set in stone. Any drops in resolution wouldn't register per se on the video resolution changing but more like a visible change on screen.

Think of it like if a man is 4k video you were watching suddenly dropped to 560p on YouTube and you kinda get the idea but it could be even more subtle and difficult to tell given YouTube has compression on the video already.

Tbh, i think 1440p and chequer board rendered to 2160p is what the PS4 Pro was using and it seems to have basically been the method at times to drop resolution to on a dynamic basis and hover between that and 2160p.
