Alfred Hitchcock's The Birds
Release Date: Hopefully soon!!

A wealthy San Francisco playgirl pursues a potential boyfriend to a small Northern California
town that slowly takes a turn for the bizarre when birds of all kinds suddenly begin to attack
people there in increasing numbers and with increasing viciousness.

Writers: Daphne Du Maurier (story), Evan Hunter

(1963) 35mm Technicolor 1.85:1

Pre-order at Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00466H3I6

Best news I've heard all week. I hope it gets the same treatment as Psycho did!
Now if we can just get a release date. I wonder if the UK will get another Steelbook release for this?

Hopefully this isn't being scheduled to release with the remake or it will be a long wait.
Plus I prefer real birds taped and nailed to surfaces then CGI

The Birds and Psycho are my two fave Hitchcock movies so I'm psyched that in 2 weeks we'll be getting Psycho and very soon The Birds on BD

The Birds? Eh, it's lesser Hitchcock. Give me Vertigo and Strangers on a Train!

I was just watching it on DVD last night and thinking of how it could use a good remaster, only to log on the site and read the news. Needless to say, I'm in for a pre-order!

The Birds is a monumental Hitchcock film. Technically his most challenging on many levels. Any Hitchcock fan should be excited to get it. One thing is for sure had PETA been around back then I don't think Hitchcock would of survived the shoot.

Its part of the list of Universal releases announced. They are up for Preorder, but the release date has not been set yet. I'm keeping my fingers crossed nothing will fall through the cracks.

Just saw this over at the Digital Bits site..

[Editor's Note: I've just confirmed directly with Universal that all these titles - and those mentioned this morning as well - are indeed scheduled for Blu-ray release by the studio in late 2010 and the first half of 2011. Expect them to be announced in progressive waves over the coming weeks and months.]
Looking good so far! I hope they are correct on the dates. 2010 to early 2011. Also since many of these were HDDVD titles I hope they are not just ported over to Bluray and all have a fresh remaster.

Default I happen to like stuffed birds on strings

We may argue in nauseum whether this is lesser Hitchcock or not, but from a technical point of view I think it is one Hitchcock movie that will benefit greatly from a good HD transfer. I mean it's Technicolor (North by Nortwest looked wonderful) and it's has a few stunning visuals (just picture that last scene at dawn when all the birds are waiting outside the house).

I for one am really looking forward to this as I've been stuck with a 4:3 dvd for some years just waiting for this release. Of course, stuffed homicidal birds on strings besides, what we all really want is Vertigo, isn't it.

How about Rear Window? The story is gripping and Ms. Kellys beauty is timeless!! I have the DVD restoration which looks unbelievable. Also, Cary Grant in North By Northwest; a fabulous transfer.

Agreed. We are at the mercy of Universal Home Video at this point. Who knows when they will be released.

Additional work is needed for blu ray release...

Default The Aston Martin DB2/4 Drophead Coupe

I watched this classic film on Encore cable the other night.

I noticed some artifacts on the tv screen from the copy of the film they used.

I hope they clear those out with the BD release.

What struck me this time, on watching the film, was Tippi's sexiness, looking into her eyes, and, I fell in love, with ... the Aston Martin DB2/4 Drophead Coupe. I just love the way the motor sounds (I assume Hitch used the motor sound of that vehicle)...

O.K, I don't understand....

"The Birds" Bluray was reviewed on 11/8/2012 by Mr. K. Brown, but yet, no official release date.
I do understand you can get this movie via the box-sets now, but what happened to the individual release that was reviewed on this site?

FWIW...I see it being released solo in the UK on the 5/13/2013

The site reviewed the disc that was included with the collection. If you want it individually you can import it from the UK as it's coming out in May there. It should be released in the US this year too.

I’m a bit late in the game here but I finally bought this movie on Blu-Ray. While this isn’t the best transfer I’ve seen, I was surprised at what a big upgrade the picture quality was compared to the DVD.

I don’t know why, but this movie is my favorite Hitchcock movie. I guess it’s because it always brings chills up my spine every time I watch it. Plus I personally thought Tippi Hedren was a marvelous actress.

It's sad to find out that Hitchcock had his "Harvey" side, or behaved similar :

When I saw this clip of hin and Anny Ondra, I imagine he was making a joke, being a bad***ss, for fun.
But now this video looks and sounds quite sinister.
